The time has come for dentures. Dentist took one look and said he could spend up to $700 on one tooth and couldn't guarantee anything would hold. He feels I need to go the full package of upper and lower. I've got 4 broken teeth in the bottom and one in the top now.

Now the fun begins to see just how this gets financed. One source won't answer the phone, so I'll be trying 3 others tomorrow.

Ouch- don't know what hurts more- the thought of having them all pulled or the cost involved. So sorry Ross, and hope the financing comes through without too much pain in the wallet.
 
Right now I'm more uptight about getting them taken care of as quick as possible. It won't take long for these to infect left as they are.
 
Like you said before....YIKES! :eek: Sorry you'll have to go through this. :( Like I said before......I should have been a Dentist. ;) Lot's of job security. :rolleyes:
 
Ross..Will your dentist do the entire process?.Pull them and the dentures..We have a place that advertises under the name Affordable Dentures...for I think $900.00...?..I heard they do a huge business..........but heard you have to have them pulled elsewhere..Hubby's dentist wanted him to wait several weeks after his was pulled..before he did the impressions for the dentures..All he could eat was instant mashed potatoes..:( ..Bonnie
 
OUCH, my mouth hurts just thinking about all this....

At least once its over you wont get any more cavities. Maybe one of those antibacterial mouthwashes would help keep any potential germs away while you await your turn at the Dentist.

No my dentist is through with me. Oral Surgeon referral. He will be the one to yank them all and such. No way can I afford to go the normal pay route. I'm forced to look to low income help. I wasn't kidding anyone when I said that the sewer would kill us along with the remainder of Lyns medical bill from her surgery. It would take every penny we have to pay these today. Bankruptcy tomorrow.

I may be freaking, but I'm so afraid one of these things will infect before I can get something done on them.

Sorry to hear that, it doesn't sound like fun.
One possible suggestion though.
Years ago when my father had to get dentures, he went to a local dental college in Cleveland. He couldn't afford anything else.
Personally almost all my teeth are capped or crowned, and it is expensive even with dental insurance.

Can they admit you to the hospital and take your teeth out there, knowing full well that if these teeth stay in they could cause a serious infection for you? My mother had to go into the hospital and have her teeth removed as her Urologist thought that it was causing her constant kidney infections.

I would hope that your doctor(s) would see this and at least find a way to get those teeth out of there so you don't get infected. Besides, I think your gums have to heal before they can fit you for dentures anyway right? I hope that this is an option for you so you can be relieved of any worry. Harrybaby:eek: :eek: :eek:
 
Hey Ross, I too have had some issues with dental stuff. I was told it goes with the heart issues. I have also tried to get my medical insurance to pay for it to no avail. I had most of my bottom teeth pulled, and I need a partial, and wouldn't you know it, my dental clinic closed before it was all finished. I am just glad that most of my work was finished before they closed. I had this terrible absess that covered my entire lower left side of my jaw earlier this year. I went in and an intern just closed it and told me to come in and get it fixed when my normal dentist was available. I was on Percocet for a month because I couldn't deal with the pain, so I understand your fear of not wanting them to get infected! You are definately not alone in this, I totally understand what you are going through!

I know it'd be a witch to do so, but if there's no publicly-supported dental program in your county/township/whatever, check into the two dental schools in Ohio.
Yes, it takes longer to get things done at a dental school/college. However, (1) you save money; (2) you help future dentists; and (3) hopefully, the professors and students have the advantage of the latest research.
I think it would be very beneficial for them to work on a heart patient with a mechanical heart valve!

My family dentist is from Houston. He has told me of his parents being patients at the University of Houston dental school; that influenced him into becoming a dentist.
I grew up in Dallas, where I was a patient at the Baylor dental school for both orthodontia and lower jaw reconstruction.
 
Ross, just wanted to chime in and that we're sorry yet another health issue and money stress has come your way. Our prayers are with your for the outcome you desire.
 
I still have no answers, but got my application for Ohio Options filled out and ready to go and still a couple avenues to check here.

One thing through all of the doom and gloom, it will be the first time in my entire life that I actually have WHITE teeth. I may actually enjoy smiling then.
