I learned how to do 'activities' mentally - like decorate the house, do laundry, go shopping, etc. Self hypnosis, I guess. I can go to my dentist, do that and fall asleep. I learned the technique years ago when I would have all morning into the afternoon appointments and just had to get away from that dang drilling and pain. Worked for me.

Justin is very good at "going somewhere" when he is having procedures, like even an echo, he looks lke he is asleep very peaceful, but if you say something, like he's asleep he'll talk, then tune back out. I'm happy he can do that

Sleeping Blues

Sleeping Blues

I TOO have tried just about everything on the market. and most of it works, at first. what worked the best for me was getting a job. whew!I was just phasing out all meds when WHAM! my wife moved out. well, needless to say, i'm back taking some ativan, a little darvocet, some valerian...tea...whatever.

and it's going to get better. i know it will.

i recall being broke (nearly) with house payments coming up, and used to dream of lottery (winning) then i got a really lucrative deal, stopped dreamingof winning the lottery, and slept so soundly.

also, i read angela;s ashes, and slept really well after that. feeling so fortunate to have a dry clean bed without fleas.

so a positive state of mind is really imporantant.

hope this blathering helps! :)

Okay then......try flipping through a sears catalogue or reading a really lame, boring book.
Angela's Ashes was too sad; too real.
Try "Dr. Tom's sleep aid"........or some people fall asleep after a glass of wine.

Self hypnosis can work. Hensylee and I use it in the dentist's office. It is something you actively have to work on at first because it means clearing your mind of everything except the one thing you are focusing on. Eventually, you are able to do that more easily.

It sort of puts you into a trance, and then into sleep if you so choose. It always scares the dentist, and he always asks me if I'm alright, which defeats the purpose and wakes me up. Once I told him what was going on, he just let it go. :)

Did anyone mention kava? I use it occasionally. Also, may I ask, Ross, do you have restless legs? That is a little bit of a different breed of cat.
Nope. No restless legs. Painful swollen legs yes.

So, the goats and sheep may be too noisy and distracting......
Alternate plan: if you can lie on your stomach this works. Have a friend, spouse, whatever, sprinkle a generous amount of baby powder all over your back, then they smoothly spread it out v-e-r-y s-l-o-w-l-y.......within several minutes you should pass out.

Dear Brother Ross, Sorry you're having this common trouble! When mine was bad, I rented porn! It would get my mind off my anxieties initially, because of the naked folk, but always eventually became boring enough to put me to sleep. I don't know if it would work for everyone, but...:D

Sleep

Sleep

I was given a prescription for Elaval at the pain clinic for my shoulder. Worked at 1st but now it doesn''t seem to work as well. Cardiologist recommended that I have a sleep test done because I have a lot of the symptoms for sleep apnea. I hate not being able to sleep becasue I feel like "s---" the next day. Hope you find something to help.

Speaking of which.......I forgot to mention that the powder massage should follow a couple of hours of mattress aerobics...then it works like a charm. Try again, cooker!! Sorry, Ross!!
