Hey guys:

What's wrong with Ross's foot? He slips info in on threads sometimes, which I don't catch, but he is always one of the people I like to check up on. He is such a sweetheart.

I'm afraid to say not good. I run out of antibiotics tomorrow and this thing is still very swollen and painful. I've been keeping it up as much as I can stand to lay around and it's just not shrinking any at all. I'm convinced that there is something else in addition to the cellulitis going on, but I've never had it before either. I'm seriously thinking there may be a clot in there and he's just dismissing it over the infection.

Dear Ross:

You may recall that my husband's incision got infected post surgery. Antibiotic for 14 days. I think your cellulitis is worse than his was, from your description. His didn't start to look better until after he finished his 14 days of antibiotics, and then it slowly started to look better. Now, if you look at it, you can tell something was there, but it does look close to normal.

That being said, it does sound like yours is much, much worse. Perhaps you should insist that they do the test for clots. Better safe than sorry, especially with your health condition, hon.

Here, Here, Ross! I totally agree! My husband had a bad case of cellulitis after his surgery and we were absolutely positive there was a blood clot in his leg. We went to the ER and couldn't get much attention till I called his doctor (it was a Sunday) who in turn called the ER and "demanded" an ultrasound be taken. Thank God - no blood clot! But, it could have been! As it was, he was in the hospital and kept on IV antibiotics overnight and then was sent to a specialist who put him on antibiotics for 14 days. It cleared up, but he's still very cautious about any suspicious looking spots on his legs.

End result - I think you should TRY to insist on a ultrasound!

Now what advice would you give any of us if we wrote that to you? It would be good advice, kindly given.

Will you please keep us posted, Ross? We care.

Yup - you know the drill Ross.

Do you have any redness in the veins that travel up from the foot? I know that with our friend that has had the several bouts of cellulitis they were actually able to track the movement of the infection that way. One time the original site was on his calf and he didn't bother to go to the doctor until the veins became red almost to his upper thigh. His doctor screamed at him for not coming in sooner.

So is it the case that it just hasn't gotten better, or do you feel it's worse. If it just hasn't improved, sounds like the antibiotics were enough to keep it from getting worse but not strong enough to knock it out. Time for Plan B.

Yes I know. All along the Doctor has simply slide me into his schedule to look at this. Tommorow I'll call and let him know that I'm out of Augmentin and still not happy. I'll then ask about an ultra sound and see if a medrol dose pak wouldn't help some with the swelling.

I was reading a bit ago and soon as I got up I was going to suggest somebody call you todaY IF WE didn't hear something. Keep us in the loop, as you are able.

Ross, has anyone suggested compression hose? Ask the doc about that. When Joe had cellulitis, and he got it quite a bit, they always suggested it for the swelling. I wouldn't do it without the doctor's say-so though.

Right now, it's so bad, I can't get it on, plus it's too painful at the moment.

Gees man...why cant you ever have somethin' boring and simple go wrong...
God Bless you matey...keep eating those those anti-b's 'til they have the desired effect on that nasty germ. We are all praying for you.

I don't know how I got this much less anything else. Dry cracked skin? Toe nail Fungas? Something opened somewhere. I really don't like thinking about getting this again and again, which apparently you will once you've had it.

I've had it twice:mad:
First time was my left wrist, second time was my left elbow.
Doctors insisted I must have a small cut somewhere....there was NOTHING.
Then they blamed my farm "lifestyle".
I think it was more likely related to my arthritic type of joints.???

Hey Ross -

I had cellulitis in my left arm. First time I went to the ER in they said it was burstitis and gave me tylenol. Next visit was with my GP a day or so later; she correctly diagnosed it and gave me antibiotics. Went home not feeling well. When my China, my DW, came home I was about delirious. She packed my up and to me back to the ER, where I was admitted with an anti-biotic resistant strain. Had me hooked up to IV anti-b's for several days.

If it aiin't geting better, push the docs. Might be that bug is resistant...

I'm thinking about you, bud...
