Hi Everyone,
Got an email from Barbara reminding me to check in and give you an update. Thank you, Barbara! I am still spacey and I kind of forgot.

I am improving. Some days, like yesterday, I felt great and could do a lot. Today, I feel beat up and knocked on my bottom! I've only had a few days like that though - so I am trying very hard to remain cheerful.

My wound has gotten smaller and smaller, and I am off the wound-vac for now. My Dr. said I have a "germ" and he changed all my antibotics to help fight the staph and the new germ. I have the wound nurses coming everyday, twice a day and the PICC line nurse coming 2 days/week. This keeps me very busy and sometimes it is hard to get enough rest!

I am hanging in there, but some days like today, it is hard to see the end of the tunnel. I feel so close to being "healed" and yet I know there are going to be these little bumps in the road. Trouble is, sometimes they feel sooo bumpy!

Good news is tomorrow is a new day and I ususally perk up after a day of wondering when I'll be me again.:)

Thanks so much for giving us the update Kim. I know you have much more important things to do and other things on your mind.

I wish you a speedy healing - if no other reason so that you don't have to buy Christmas presents for all these extra people coming to your house!:D

Good to hear from you, Kim.

Rest assured you will get better. The roller coaster will slow down and each day will get easier. One day you will wake up and be amazed that you went through all this and feel so good.

hang in there Chris

hang in there Chris

Kim,

Just wanted you to know still thinking of you and praying for you. Hang in there and things will soon get back to normal. Keep looking to your blessings and trust God for your challenges.

Who is that little angel in the picture with you? Teach her how to rub your neck or massage your shoulders.....or even massage your feet....or help you in some other anytime of day kind of thing. Then, when you are feeling down, let her come and cheer you up with this new found talent of hers.

Trust in your own body...it has served you well all these years. It is fighting to find itself again, so be gentle with it.... be patient..... it will return.

One thing I found was not to try to fight being tired. If I rested when I was tired, then I really felt so much better after the resting. Sometimes you have to rest like it's an extra night's sleep!! That's okay!! Your body knows best.

Hang in there. You'll be bouncing around and busy as a bee soon enough.

Best wishes! :) Marguerite

KIM! SO glad to hear from you! It sounds like you have certainly had your share of "challenges." But remember...... this too shall pass. The hardest part is behind you.

I loved the post about getting your little one to give you massages. What a nice idea.

Take good care and try to drop us a line again. I am keeping you in my prayers.

Barbara

Wow sounds like your still in the hospital except at home. I sure hope you have some family there helping you out. Get lots of rest if you can and you'll start feeling better when you get rid of that infection and get rid of the bandages and picc lines. Hang in there you'll make it.

Kim,
Glad you are doing better.

7 years ago, my wife had her C-Section incision infected. 1 week after the C-Section, Dr. cut the inicision open and the wound needed to be cleaned (cleaned and packed with strip gauze twice a day for a month).
In the beginning, home nurses came twice a day and toward the end, I had to do it.
One of the ICU nurses for my wife's recent OHS said she had the same problem with C-Section but for some reason, they did not provide the home nurse. Her husband (now ex-husband) who was a highly decorated marine, his would turn green and could not do it so she had to do the wound care herself!!!

It seems you had 2 things my wife went though 7 years apart at the same time.

My wife had a set back after the recent OHS: the pericardial and pleural effusion 2 weeks after OHS this time.
So they had to insert the drain tube again and it was more painful than the original OHS because of the location where the tube went in this time. They could not control the pain with all the pain medication they were giving her the first few hours. She couldn't even breath!
What really helped was the position change: Having to lie on the side (with help of pillows on the back). Few nurses from OHS visit told us about it and had her lie on the side.
I remembered this so I asked the nurse to help me to put her on her side. The pain level literally went down to a half immediately!
It appears not all nurses were aware that this helps patients.
You can try this for pain or muscle cramp...

Hang in there. My wife's 7 year old C-section scar is barely visible now and 8 weeks from OHS, my wife is not 100% but she feels well enough she sometimes forgets she needs to take Coumadin at 6 PM...
Now we have to teach our kid how to give his mom a massage :p
