Oops - help posting??? New Topic box disappears.

I signed up the other day, but when I posted below this evening, my post appeared as "guest" (apparently I was not signed in). When I sign in, the "New Topic" icon to create a new post disappears and I cannot post or comment under my username. When I log out, the "New Topic" box reappears and I can post, but not comment. Clearly user error but how do I fix? Thank you.

Lots of topic heading disappear. Yesterday I posted a topic - I was logged on - yet my topic never appeared in the list of forum posts. It only showed in Latest Activity. I noticed loads of topics that are there but which don't show when you click the forums. A definite technical problem.
