I thought that beating heart valve surgery would be a near future technology to add to the advancements but apparently not. I realize the concept would not be appealing to some heart valve patients but it looks like it is a preferable option for people with lower ejection fractions.

University of Chicago Hospital is doing beating heart mitral and tricuspid surgery.

It kept on ticking

Dr. Starr did my PVR using this technique. I was on the bypass machine, but my heart was not stopped during the procedure. Amazing.

Thanks George

Thanks George

Wow George,

Thanks for letting me know. It's great to hear that the technology is in use in other areas. It seems to me that it could be difficult to work on a moving beating heart but in reading up on this I see they have an interesting technique of stablizing the area they are working on. Great to hear you were blessed with some new technology. Best Wishes for You,

Thanks for the link. One more thing to research before I have my mitral valve replacement.

Thanks for the article. As one of the Cardiac Surgeons mentioned in the article: Valluvan Jeevanandam, Professor of Surgery, MD Chief, Cardiac and Thoracic Surgery preformed my surgery in March 2001 replacing bith my Aortic and Mitral Valve and repairing my Tricuspid valve. Glad to see he is advancing into the future with new procedures and technology. If I ever need valve sugery again, he would be my man! I owe him my life
