Open Heart surgeries and Neurological problems

not yet. It's nothing severe and it's only occasionally I experience these things. Reading stuff on this forum has made me realise this is actually rather common for people who've had heart surgery

Open Heart surgeries and Neurological problems

I experienced occasional (maybe a few times a year) grey outs in my left eye for about 5-7 years before surgery. I probably get them more frequently now (one every 6 weeks or so) Since surgery I also get occasional bouts of double vision, and my memory is definitely not as good as it was

Frequency OF Follow Up CT Scans

Yes it seems , especially if the aortopathy has a genetic element to it, the descending aorta is more vulnerable to developing an aneurysm following ascending aorta/arch graft replacement

Frequency OF Follow Up CT Scans

Here is a paper I've found that explains the sort of thing they're looking for when they do CT scans on people who have had an ascending aortic graft https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7067394/

Frequency OF Follow Up CT Scans

I assumed the same thing about why I'm being CT scanned every year. They're checking to see the suture line between the native aorta and the dacron graft is not leaking or forming an aneurysm

Frequency OF Follow Up CT Scans

I got a reply back from my consultant.....it seems regular CT scans are part of the standard follow up procedure for me: "It is good to hear from you. The surgical team carefully monitor your aorta for any uncommon long term aortic complications related to the bicuspid aortopathy and its...

Frequency OF Follow Up CT Scans

I had a CT scan a few months after my operation in April 21, and another one in Summer 22 and another one in April 23...all at the request of surgical team. I believe they intend to ask for me to have a CT scan next year aswell I have been told that there is no problem with the mechanical valve...

Sports for those with Mechanical Valve

I play tennis & golf too. I used to play alot of soccer until my surgery in 2021 As I'm on warfain I'm a bit wary of returning to playing soccer, but I think 5-a-side with no headers may be an acceptable risk

    Ok to play football?

If I was going to return to playing soccer, it would be particular forms of the game. Indoor 5-a-side with felt lined balls and no heading for example I would never head a football on warfarin. You'd just be asking for trouble doing that

    Something minor about CoaguCheks

I used both types of test strip in the INRange meter. I had been using the XS PT Test strips for the first year I had the meter until I realised there were strips specific for the INRange meter. The difference is trivial, so both strips are OK to use in the INRange meter imo (y)

Hey, I was thinking of you when I watched this video recently 😂😂

    Something minor about CoaguCheks

yes that's right. I have the INRange meter, and realised there are 2 (v similar looking) testing strips. I now get the ones specifically for the INRange meter (XS PT Test PST) I did some comparison work between the two and found the XS PT Test gave an INR ratio 0.1-0.2 higher than the XS PT Test...

My Dad has the same condition as me

thanks for that guys (y) Yes I'll ask Dad to make sure he finds out the severity of the stenosis I agree that surgery may not be the best course of action in this case given his age. The severity of the stenosis will be the deciding factor I think

My Dad has the same condition as me

In early 2021 just a couple of months before my heart surgery my Dad caught a nasty bout of covid and had to spend time in hospital. Whilst there he had a scan of his lungs which incidentally picked up an ascending aortic aneurysm. The diameter was 5.4cm , and in the 2 years since it hasn't...

Issue with a Roche Coaguchek INRange

Yes their customer support was good. This is the advice they gave me....it worked :) " Please remove the test strip guide cover (the blue piece of plastic where strips are inserted) and inspect the white square. This square needs to be completely white - does it look dirty in any way? It can...
