    8 weeks post-op rib pain

Hi all, I'm 8 weeks post-op today, hurrah! I'm feeling good except I have this pain to the right of my sternum (which I think I mentioned before) that I finally deduced must be my ribs. And especially in one spot in particular it is very tender in the area above the breast one one of the ribs...

For those with tissue valves: a question about aspirin.

Hi fellow tissue valve owners!! I have a bovine valve and am 5 and a half weeks post-op. I called my surgeon today to ask if I could stop the metoprolol and aspirin (as I'd run out of the first prescription of both). The dr. said I could stop the metoprolol if my Family doctor says okay, but...

How do you prolong the life of your new tissue valve?

I am 4 weeks and 2 days post op after getting a Perimount bovine valve. My recovery is going well, I think. The still have sternum pain and I still have a big lump and lots of swelling at the top. But otherwise I think I'm doing well! My big question now is: with this new lease on life, what...

    Scar treatment question

I'm 3 weeks post op now, and I'm just wondering if there is anything I should be doing to the incision at this point to help it not be a big bad scar. Is it too early to put anything on it? I read something about Manuka honey for healing. Does anybody have any advice what to put on, and when, in...

Pain on right side of sternum

Hi! I am 3 weeks post op now and doing so well except for this one sharp pain I am having constantly now. It is in one particular spot, about an inch from near the top of the incision on the right side. Just wondering what that would be. The incision itself doesn't hurt, it's just that one...

Will this big sternum bump go away???

At the top of my incision is a huge bony bump, which I guess is where the sternum is wired together or something of the sort? Just wondering if this thing is ever going to flatten out and go back to normal. Has me a bit concerned! Is everybody this way after surgery? Tx for your input! :)

    I got a 21mm Perimount Tissue Valve

Anybody heard anything about these valves? I guess it's too late for me if it wasn't a good one, but I just looked it up on line and it says it lasts 20 years! That's a long time for a tissue valve, right? My surgeon told me he thought I made the right decision to choose tissue over mechanical...

    I'm a newbie...and worried I won't have the operation in time!

Hi everyone, I have a biscupid aortic valve, and severe stenosis, just turned 60. I was told by my doctors in Mexico where I was living, that I needed to get back to Canada IMMEDIATELY for an operation. My echo showed .5, and I believe that is very very narrow, right? They were quite alarmed and...
