    New to BAV

I agree strongly. Due to my initial anxiety, I found myself ruminating over my first appointment afterwards. It was helpful to have someone who was there with me to interpret and to remember everything the doctor had said and alleviate my fears. Maintaining a personal file--also a great idea...

    Who wants to live forever

I went through a personal crisis this summer after being diagnosed with BAV and informed of a future surgery--though it remains a decade or so away. I'm 22 and a recent college graduate so it made my transition to "real life" slightly more difficult *laughs*. I can't imagine yet the existential...

Consequences of low heart rate (bradycardia)

I'm 22 and have a pulse in the mid 50s; have had it at least since 2 years ago at least (can't remember past then.) Found out over the summer when I found my BAV that it drops down to high 30s while sleeping. I have had occular migraines with aura since I was in junior high and have recently...

I need a great Cardiologist in the Chicago area:

I personally don't know much, but check the thread below out; there are plenty of people here from Chicago that I've noticed in browsing. http://valvereplacement.com/forums/showthread.php?t=29698&highlight=northwestern BAVD John is from Chicago and had McCarthy at Northwestern as his surgeon...

    muscle pain from statins use

They cut my LDL in half :) Anyways, I need to really watch my cholesterol and I was wondering about CQ10 and C 500mg, what are they exactly and do they seem to help?

    It's Aug 26th and I'm 4 weeks post op :)

It's good to hear your doing well. Keep up the recovery! It can be difficult for those of us watching the cubs without recently having had major surgery :)

    Not your Typical BAV...

Edit: Wanted to ask you how you were doing, noticed you had your surgery, but saw your thread and posted there...

    A Noobie Veteran...

Matski, Well wishes right back to you. You've been through a lot, but you have a perspective that says a lot about you. Some people go through life not having an understanding of what is really important, and I think that you've got things figured out. On an unrelated note, I was interested...

    My Weekend Project

Matski, You're quite a guy! It's awesome that your customizing your kids rooms; I wish that I could have had something that cool growing up (I was also fascinated by military history as a kid, so it would have been doubly cool) Good luck putting it together.

    A Newbie

Thank you Kathy! Thank you so much for the compliments. I'm hoping it will be awhile, only time will tell. As far as the diagnosis; despite the unforutnate cirsumstances, I think that it has fostered some positive developments in my character as far as thinking about the "bigger picture."

    Not your Typical BAV...

That's a good point, I noticed the same correlation. My cardio explained to me that I was "lucky" not to have aortic stenosis. I forgot the exact phrase she used, but it seemed that aortic stenosis and BAV were interrelated more often than not; at least that's the impression I got. I was...

    Plastic Surgery?

I got the same done 4 years ago and for three days aftewards I was in a Vicodin induced coma. Certainly no walk in the park when there are other things to worry about!

Minimally invasive AVR at the Cleveland, amazing stats

Must be Bina. I always assumed that there was no such thing because there is always a risk related to the surgery, even if is infinitesimal (that's got to get some scrabble word points.) I think back to an anesthesiologist who nearly killed me in pre-op for a wrist surgery. Then again, I have no...

    Not your Typical BAV...

Scuba, I'm originally from Chicago, but am staying on at Knox as a Post-Baccalaureate student before graduate school. Downstate was bit of a shock to me coming from the city. I enjoy it though, but I must say that there is little to do here when the campus is empty and I really should be...

    muscle pain from statins use

I was about to say, it's very clearly stated that on the instructions that you should contact your doctor in case of any muscle fatigue. I had an LDL of 168 at 22, and I was a vegetarian recently! I've eaten pretty healthy but my genetics saw fit to stick me with high cholesterol so I need some...

    A Newbie

You're right on, Steve. I had graduated college a month before my diagnosis and just started living on my own away from any family and friends, so this was a bit difficult to wrap my head around at first; I had been giving a lot of thought to my future, and this wasn't part of it! However, I...
