    15 years - March 4th

In the beginning, I used to take an emotional day off to celebrate my Valversary. This year I didn't even remember it was 15 years until mid-day!

Osteoporosis & Warfarin - are they connected?

It does!! Thank you.... reading the left hand glove analogy really helped me accept/ understand this (thread link in pellicle's post). Knowledge leads to empowerment!

Osteoporosis & Warfarin - are they connected?

Pellicle - that was fascinating! Went back & read that entire 2008 thread on the 660 mg. Interesting analogy - the left-handed gloves! Who knew?!! Chuck C - so damn right about the good-for-you-K-foods! I used to eat more greens, but also was drinking more back then...prob not scientifically...

Osteoporosis & Warfarin - are they connected?

After 15 years on Warfarin, and a recent diagnosis of Osteoporosis, I’m wondering if long term use / high dose could contribute to Osteoporosis? Anyone have insight / experience with this? I’ve always required a high daily dose of Warfarin (12.5mg) to maintain 2.5-3.5 INR. I know every...

How much warfarin do you take to get to an inr of 2.5 to 3.5?

Gkeraney, I take 12.5 mg daily. The nurses at my cardiologist say I'm the highest dose they monitor, closest being 7.5/daily. They call me "highly metabolic". I've been on warfarin for 15 years w/ a St Judes aortic valve & prosthetic aortic arch.

Bridge Therapy for a Fine Needle Thyroid Biopsy?

Cardiologist felt pretty strongly that she wanted me to bridge, so away we go with that. Gotta learn to do it eventually as there will certainly be other medical occasions (that 50-something colonscopy is on the horizon!) My INR is usually pretty volatile and I have swings even w/OUT much...

Bridge Therapy for a Fine Needle Thyroid Biopsy?

Thanks Dick. Well, with lots of views, and only Dick weighing in, I guess the consensus is that bridge therapy isn't too extreme for this procedure. I'll keep ya posted! Will be learning how to do that lovenex shot on Monday. Just another skill under my belt,eh?

Bridge Therapy for a Fine Needle Thyroid Biopsy?

Multiple nodules found on thyroid. Am scheduled for a biopsy April 5th. Surgeon feeling pretty sure they're benign, but we gotta know for sure. I'm all good with that but.... Doc called my cardio to consult, and she wants me to bridge. Have appt w/ cardio on Mon 3/28 to discuss. Personally...

Does receiving professional massage affect INR?

ROSS - BINA..... Bruises...oh, you know those times when you just want someone to dig into that knot that hurts? Only happened once or twice. And...Ahhh yes...the Happy Ending....just one select client gets that! :-) SUE943....will keep in mind. In class we only use unscented jojoba oil...

Does receiving professional massage affect INR?

Had a good discussion w/ one of my massage instructors this past weekend. She believes that receiving an hour of massage is the equivalent to a 5 - 10 minute brisk walk. So little impact on the overall metabolic rate. I too have noticed a drop in my INR as my physical activity increases (as...

Does receiving professional massage affect INR?

I'm 14 months post-op, and my INR levels had stabilized after the initial ups & downs. Was checked every 4 weeks. This winter, I started Massage Therapy school part-time on the weekends. (My major career-life change after surgery. Love it!) Around the holidays my INR started...

Low INR, in the hospital, warning: girl stuff

another thought...maybe instead of the pill...('cuz I feel the way you do, would rather not be on it), now would be the time broach the topic with your significant other that he "take one for the team".... and have a vasectomy! You've certainly been thru enough!!!!!

Low INR, in the hospital, warning: girl stuff

Hmmm. Why did they HAVE to take out the IUD? My gyn raised the question that it might have to be removed prior to surgery. My surgeon & cardio said they didn't see any reason for that. Hallelujia 'cuz I spotted for about 9 months when they put it in 2 years ago, and dammit, I had 3 more...

    Internet Overload-scared stiff-Newbie

I had the EXACT same thing?.5 cm aneurysm plus a sticky aortic valve, so had the package deal of a St. Jude?s mechanical valve and a Dacron sleeve where the aneurysm was removed. Remember, this is just another day in the office for these surgeons. Personally I never really worried about the...

    Restrictions after surgery?

definitely a front closure sports bra definitely a front closure sports bra Totally forgot about that. The nearly flat chested nurse said, "Why bother with a bra?"...while the wise well-endowed visiting nurse took one look at me and said, "Honey, let's get that bra on right NOW!" The weight...

    Restrictions after surgery?

CLOTHING ? a couple shirts that are front opening or are loose & have very wide neck line. Elastic waist pants. I had a hard time pulling jeans laterally across my body to button / zip. SHOWER ? Used the shower stool only twice; sister assistance a couple times to shampoo; but glad they were...

I am tired?I still need my naps!

Went back to work part-time at 8 weeks. Eased into full time by post op week 12. Now at 16 weeks I am absolutely exhausted by Friday, and wind up taking 3 ? 4 hour naps on Saturday and Sunday to catch up! I typically sleep 7 - 8 hours each night. Seems to be an accumlation factor of not...

    Coumadin and Alcohol

Eat drink & be merry! Eat drink & be merry! I?ve learned that doctors will try to guide us with fear. My cardiologist told me I could have a bleeding episode in the GI tract and it would be the worst thing I could do. He was a just real poo-pooer whenever I brought up alcohol. (didn?t help...

    Breathing deeply, 'heavy' heartbeat

analogy that helped me accept the new noise... analogy that helped me accept the new noise... I too have a St Jude's. Was concered that it was so loud and strong. My GP finally came up with an analogy that helped me accept that this was okay. He explained my heart beat was probably always...
