Passing our heart problems on to our kids

Two years ago, in between my brother having an emergency mitral valve replacement and my sister MaryC and I having mitral valve repairs, I took my then 8 year old twins in to have their hearts checked out. I probably wouldn?t have done it, even with my family?s history, except that my son had...

    One Year Update on MVR

I had my first echo this month since my surgery a year ago on June 19, 2007. I had a mitral valve repair by Dr. William Ryan at Presby Dallas. Everything looked great, the technician told me (sshhh?I know he?s not supposed to tell me anything) there was extremely minimal leakage. He called it...

Meds Needed After Successful MV Repair?

It's been 4 months since I had a successful MV repair. I saw my cardio at 3 weeks and my surgeon at 8 weeks and everything has been going fine. I haven't had an echo yet, my cardio said I didn't need one until one year. I just saw my cardio again for my 4 month appointment. I was taking one...

    10 Week Update

Today is 10 weeks since my surgery. I'm almost back at work full time - close to 40 hours, but not quite. I've been taking it easy and not pushing it any more than I have to. I'm lucky enough with work to be in a position I can do that. I'm back to the 20 minutes a day (6 or 7 days per week)...

    Connective Tissue Disorders

I?ve been researching information on Connective Tissue Disorders and thought I would see if maybe someone here has information on it. I recently had mitral valve repair for a Mitral Valve Prolapse (MVP). MVP is a common characteristic of Connective Tissue Disorders (CTD). I?m one of seven...

    4 Week Post-Op Update

I wanted to give an update on where I'm at 3 weeks and 6 days post-op. I had a mitral valve repair by Dr. Ryan in Dallas using port access procedure on June 19th. The repair went great, but I suffered a "classic stroke" when a branch of an artery was nicked during surgery and they closed me up...

    Counting Down

I'm closing in on my surgery. Sure seems like it's taking a long time. Today I tied up loose ends at work and hope that I got everything done I needed to. It's pretty strange, dealing with the hospital about registration and insurance stuff, all long distance and in advance. I'm set to meet...

    Still on for the 19th

I talked to my surgeon's assistant today. This has been the most bizarre scheduling I've ever had to do. The surgeon I have chosen (who is out of state) still hasn't called me to talk about my TEE, but at least he had time to review it and leave her a note that he concurred that I needed...

How Soon After Surgery for Airplane Flight?

I'm sure many people have had to fly somewhere else to get surgery. How soon after surgery did you fly and did you experience any problems? I may be a little ahead of myself here, but I don't think so. I had a TEE done and a surgeon told me I need surgery now. I want to have Dr. Ryan in...

    Visit with Robotic Surgeon

Well, I'm one step closer to surgery today. I had a TEE done last week and then met with a surgeon today who does minimally invasive robotic surgery (Da Vinci). He said with severe regurgitation I need surgery even without my heart being enlarged. As an aside, I found the "normal" heart...

    TEE Scheduled

I?ve posted here a couple of times. My sister, MaryC, recently had MV repair. Our brother had MV replacement in September 06, which is when we found this forum. I have been anxiously watching Mary?s impending surgery and now recovery as I knew I was in a similar situation. After Mary?s...

    Reading Echo Results

Does anyone know a good website for interpreting results from echo reports? I have searched on the Internet and this website and haven't been able to find anything. The reports are confusing and mean nothing if you don't know what the abbreviations mean and what the normal ranges are.

    Denver Cardiologists ??

Does anyone have a recommendation for a good cardiologist in the Denver, Colorado area? Thanks, Sherri

Any ideas on choosing a cardiologist?

After my last visit with my cardiologist I decided that he and I are on completely different pages as far as my care is concerned. I plan to find a new one for my next visit. I live in a small community and have to drive 120 miles to a major city for good doctors. I don't have any good...

    MaryC's Surgery

Mary went into surgery at 7:15 this morning. They were able to do port access and a repair. They were done with the surgery around 11:30 am and by 12:45 pm she had the dreaded tube out. Everything went very smoothly and she looks great. Sherri
