    Cholesterol Medications??

My cardio had a complete lipid profile done on me. I'll have to check what my numbers were, but I was a bit high for the 'bad' cholesterol, and he put me on Crestor a few weeks ago. I'm splitting a 10mg pill so it's a low dose: 5mg per day. Even so, I started having muscle pain & weakness a...

    I am so TIRED

K K Sorry to hear of your troubles! I was in hospital 11 days, and thought THAT was a long time. I hated....HATED the liquid version of Potassium but I guess it works. I take 20 MEQ pills now, myself....and have ever since the OHS in 2006. I just break them in half, put one half at a time...

"no surgery" valve replacement in 10 yrs

This is promising for sure, but I don't understand how they'd get an artificial valve OUT of the heart without OHS. I understand how they'd get the percutaneous valve IN. A mech valve, like mine - certainly would not come out that way. It's sutured in place, and those would have to be cut...

    Concentration problems after surgery

Yeah the pump-head was kinda hard for me at first too! But I was kinda ditzy prior to the surgery so who could tell? I got a chuckle from the guy (above) who said his wife called him punkin head all the time...that was my situation too. If anything, my ability to consecrate has gotten better...

    Warfarin to be superseded 'soon'?

My wife & I heard on the evening news tonight that Lilly here in Indianapolis was getting ready to seek final FDA approval for a new 'blood thinning' drug. This of course got our attention! Come to find out, though, that the drug will be called "prasugrel" and basically would be an alternative...

    Getting a Defibrillator- not happy

Clare: I'm certainly with you on this one! I got a temp pacemaker after my OHS in 2006, and hoped that'd not be needed but it was, and so they put in a regular permanent pacemaker. Lots of people here are pulling for you, that's for sure! And your professors will understand and hopefully...

weird symptoms - throat swelling & arrhythmia

I really should chime in here.....I figured it was good that I resurrected an old thread of mine but in fact I should have brought everyone more up to date before posting another question. The throat-swelling episodes were certainly an allergy to milk. My first posts to this thread were...

Finding a new focus in life. Ideas?

Yep I can certainly relate. I had been a public school teacher (again, as someone else mentioned, it was a calling since I wasn't doing it for the money) but unfortunately I had to leave that job due to being so sick. Turns out my heart was probably at least a catalyst for my illnesses, but...

weird symptoms - throat swelling & arrhythmia

Just an update on this thread. It's been months since I posted last on this subject, but in the last few weeks I'd noticed things were a little different with my heart rate. I've got a pacemaker, and it's set on the low end at 60, but in my neuro's office he noticed a pulse rate of 56...

    migraines

John: I'm not familiar with any studies that have been done about this phenomena. I've had migraines for years prior to my OHS but after my surgery they became much much more numerous, though usually really quite benign. I have little pain now, but often feel as though I'm in a cloud or a fog...

    migraines

Does anyone (Al?) know if magnesium supplements affect the INR in any large way, for those of us on anti-coagulation therapy?

Medic Alert for BAV Repair and Aneurysm Repair?

I've thought of getting one of these too, but I'm not into wearing jewelry of any kind. I noticed on their website they have a 'sport' version now - anyone tried that one? Also, they have a keychain USB 'flashdrive'-like version that I guess the EMT's can just punch into their on-board PC &...

Got bored of the gym so I joined Karate! (yikes)

This sounds really awesome David. I hope it's still going well for you. I'm surprised your cardio said you shouldn't be thrown onto your back, but I suppose that's good advice to follow for anyone, not just those who've had aortic issues. Anyway, keep it up & don't feel bad about making...

    migraines

I've had a history of migraine since 1994...had AV replacement in 2006 and am still having them. Mine are mostly aura now...and like someone else, I've noticed the aura is lasting longer now than before and is not always accompanied by severe head pain like before. I'm a little nauseous, but...

    coumadin/prevacid

I have to chime in here, as I've been on several of the PPI and acid-pump inhibitors for about five months now. They keep having to change me, because even though I need them (I was probably close to an ulcer before, needing Tums(tm) every night, in constant pain, etc.) I believe they've...

    year's supply of meds?

Ohh! I didn't mean to cause such suspense. Don't worry, I'm not some security operative needing to relocate to an exotic foreign location, to live a life of danger, and needing to take a years supply of all my meds because there are no pharmacies in this exotic place! At least, if that...

    year's supply of meds?

Does anyone's insurance allow them to get their coumadin (or other long-term medications) in a year's supply? What did you have to do to get that to happen?

    Teachers

Until 2005, I taught grade 6-12 music...chorus and voice and general music. I'm currently teaching privately. My wife teaches secondary English and has had about 2 weeks of the nightmares that were previously mentioned :p !!!! School starts next week and her school is undergoing a major...

    Crash!

Nancy - I'm surprised your husband had to go off Coumadin...I didn't think they'd ever do that. Perhaps they did some kind of bridge therapy to keep him anticoagulated, then? And Philip - I'm glad you're only bruised but other wise no worse for the wear. It is proof we shouldn't be afraid to...
