Surgery now not recommended after TOE/TEE

That’s some heavy reading. Will give it another go over the weekend. Wasn’t aware it’s more complicated like that but helps me understand a lot more. Thank you. It really plays with your mind at times. I’ve been questioning again (!) how symptomatic I really am. I went to watch a sports team...

Surgery now not recommended after TOE/TEE

I can walk a solid 20min without shortness of breath; unless there is an incline! Been frustrated with my consultant since the start to be honest. I don’t want to disturb the next two tests proceeding but certainly feeling like I should be doing that no matter what the outcome.

    Two failed TOE/TEE

Figured I’d post to wrap this up as my other post goes in a different direction. Third attempt was successful but distressing. It was booked to happen under GA but they tried sedation again and this time I have memories of trying to get them to stop, being in distress and having my hand moved...

Surgery now not recommended after TOE/TEE

I’m getting lightheaded, some shortness of breath if I move around too quickly and I’m exhausted after a light day. I also get short periods of chest pain, chest heaviness, occasional extra beats and palpitations. I’m just puzzled why this isn’t driving a decision in itself. I started blood...

Surgery now not recommended after TOE/TEE

While it took three attempts; I finally had a successful TOE/TEE scan done yesterday. My aortic regurgitation is actually moderate to severe rather than severe. As a result I’ve gone from surgery by June-24 to maybe monitoring every 6 months. I’ve an angiogram scheduled in two weeks which will...

    Two failed TOE/TEE

Anyone else had this experience? Had a TOE/TEE in January fail as I couldn’t tolerate it with mild sedation. Second attempt today with anaesthetist in the room and it still failed. I’ve no memory of today’s experience and didn’t even consider it might fail. So frustrated. I was asked if a...

60YO woman with BAV and severe stenosis

Good luck! I’m 4 months away from surgery based on a rough timeline from January. TOE/TEE scheduled Friday (second attempt) which should confirm or otherwise the timeline.

60YO woman with BAV and severe stenosis

The challenge I found initially was deciding between real symptoms and those created by a degree of anxiety about the whole situation. Turns out I’d been dismissing my symptoms with other plausible reasons with a little anxiety thrown in as well. I’d been a big gym goer and felt my cardio...

BAV With Severe Regurgitation - How worried should I be at this point?

I also have a BAV with severe regurgitation and using the UK national health system. Late Nov-23 at an annual check up it was noticed my regurgitation is severe and a TOE/TEE was scheduled for 10th Jan. The TOE/TEE was unsuccessful and I now have one planned for Friday with an anaesthetist in...

    Hello everyone!

I find myself getting lightheaded also. Surgery "within 6 months" was the timeline I got last week. Very late Nov-23 I had my annual check-up that identified a step change in my regurgitation severity. I had a planned transoesophageal echocardiogram last week, but I couldn't tolerate it even...

    Hello everyone!

Hey, welcome! I'm (36m) also waiting for surgery for severe regurgitation due to a BAV. I've become more aware of symptoms since being alerted to it also and dull chest pain has been a common one for me along with considerable tiredness and to a lesser extent shortness of breath. Initially I was...

Many UK / NHS members? Today's routine check up wasn't routine!

They tried without the sedation first and honestly I think that’s the mistake they made. But even with the sedative I was fully aware of what was going on. I was starting to cough and that seemed to be the main issue. They’ve been keeping an eye on this annually for ~15 years. So not had an...

Many UK / NHS members? Today's routine check up wasn't routine!

The transoesophageal echocardiogram didn’t go as planned today. I couldn’t tolerate it even with sedation so after three attempts they gave up. Got to go back for the same procedure but need to be asleep next time. Consultant did however do an echocardiogram and did confirm severe...

Many UK / NHS members? Today's routine check up wasn't routine!

😜 Ah, I didn't realise the TOE vs TEE was due to spelling - thanks for sharing! I'm not sure how soon I'll get access to a surgeon; I suspect it will be very much under the control of my current consultant which is using the TOE/TEE scan as a factor. A lot of my positive feeling at having...

Many UK / NHS members? Today's routine check up wasn't routine!

It’s great to hear from you! Once the system picks up some speed it’s often excellent. Ha. Yes. I’ve spent a lot of time reading this site this past few days. Got loads of questions to ask at the appropriate time. (Such as do you need to shave fully from the neck down; like everywhere...

Many UK / NHS members? Today's routine check up wasn't routine!

I best double check - as I understand it TOE and TEE are the same thing right; just depends who you ask (or where you live)? It's great to hear from someone who has had this as part of the monitoring phase as I've been quick to link it with imminent surgery. It was explained to me in the same...

Many UK / NHS members? Today's routine check up wasn't routine!

I guess it’s more being overwhelmed. The stuff I don’t understand I suspect is not relevant for now such as measurements and pressure etc. Oh and how the US (and wider) health system works!
