AVR surgery scheduled in 3 days! ANY AND ALL ADVICE WELCOME!!!!

Consider this. Tissue valve= 12 weeks cardiac rehab and 6 months to full recovery. Mechanical valve= 12 weeks cardiac rehab, 6 months to full recovery....lifetime anticoagulation therapy. Personally I can do rehab standing on my head. Reop does not concern me. Remember there is no guarantee you...

    recent election

I wasn't advocating what she did one way or another. I was pointing out the difference between a democracy and a republic with an example. You could also use a refresher course in reading comprehension. God your thick.

    recent election

It's obvious you don't know the difference between a democracy and a republic. In a republic the majority doesn't always win. In 1963 one person, Madalyn Murray O'hair single handedly got prayer taken out of school against the wishes of over 200,000,000 people. If I were you whatever school you...

    recent election

Thank God we don't use the popular vote to elect a president. It amounts to nothing more than mob rule. All you would have to do is win California and New York and you got it. Actually I don't see why one state has more say in the election than another. Each state has autonomy and should get 1...

    Running after AVR

I never ran until after I had AVR surgery at 49 years old. How ironic is that! (insert Rod Serling music here). Now I run/ walk 3 x a week. 3 miles at a time on a treadmill. I have always lifted weights and still do. I even won some powerlifting competitions before AVR surgery. I haven't...

    mechanical or tissue valve

A couple things. If you choose mechanical don't assume you will not need a reop in the future. The fact is 1 in 4 or 25% of mechanical valves will have to be replaced at some point in time. The reop rate for tissue valves is 3 in 4 or 75%. Also someone suggested you listen to your cardio and...

11 years with tissue valve. Anyone longer?

Had my aortic valve replaced at age 49 with a CE bovine valve in 2005 . Just had my yearly echo and cardio said the valve is still opening and closing properly and is not even close to wearing out. I would be interested in hearing from anyone who had a tissue valve last longer.

Can't stop thinking about it....scared to death of ascending aortic aneurysm surgery!

I'm not a regular here. I visit a couple times a year. I don't post much. I can understand your feelings when you are not having any symptoms. When I had my surgery (11 years ago) I had severe Afib and shortness of breath and suffered with symptoms for many years before my Dr. finally figured...

    Vacuum bell for pectus excavatum

Greetings all. I have a rather unique question to ask. I had my aortic valve and root replaced with a bovine valve 11 years ago. No problems there. The problem is I have a condition called pectus excavatum. A dished sternum. I want to try using a vacuum bell to correct it. (A vacuum bell creates...
