    Liver Function/Cleanse & INR

Just a clarification: My liver cleanse diet is NOT due to cirrhosis or liver disease. Rather, it is a diet plan that has as it's theory that if the liver if working overtime cleaning out toxins, additives etc then it is not as efficient at processing the good food and/or removing the fat...

    Liver Function/Cleanse & INR

Thanks for the quick replies! I have been home testing since my surgery nearly 8 yrs ago. At first with the Coaguchek S and for the last few years, with the XS. So I am very "involved" with monitoring and dosing my Warfarin. This diet change is not a cleanse in the truest sense, but rather a...

    Liver Function/Cleanse & INR

I don't remember this ever being commented on, so I'm asking: If I take steps in my diet to improve liver function (i.e.- cut out artificial chemicals, sugars, gluten etc) and just each healthy, it would logically seem that my INR would go down? My reasoning is, if the liver works as a better...

    Dental Crown to be set

Thanks everybody. Since my original Endocarditis was probably from dental work, it does make sense to take the antibiotics just to be safe. Got my prescription refilled and will take them on Monday before the appointment. Thanks again.

    Dental Crown to be set

Probably been answered before, but what about pre-med for just having a new crown set? I did pre-med for the prep work etc. Now the Dentist wants me to pre-med before he "glues" it on!! Don't think I've done that before, but this is a new dentist. He is very good, but not too educated on...

    Africa- Travel- Salad??

Any idea how much Vitamin K is in an average spring green type salad (not iceburg lettuce)??? That might help figure out if something as simple a supplementing with a Vitamin K tablet would work.

    Africa- Travel- Salad??

Thanks for the replies. We are not going to some out of the way places. We will be in Nairobi and in a game park for a week. The recommendation to avoid the salads came from a friend who lives there. Also, we will be going to the Seychelles for a week and the guide books basically say that...

    Africa- Travel- Salad??

I am going to Africa at the end of November. I have been rock solid with my INR for the past couple of years. This partly due, I think, to my regular eating habits, including a salad every day. Well, where we are going in Africa it is not recommended that I eat salads. Any suggestions? I don't...

    INR test strip expiration date

One trick I've used (not necessarily recommending) is reset the date on your meter to have it accept the strips that are out of date. I only do this if, as Ross said, I have a couple of strips left and don't want to waste them. This is "for what it's worth".

    Inadequate Blood Sample

Besides the other suggestions, I have used a small rubber band on the end of the finger that I am going to test. When I put the strip into my Coaguchek XS it starts its countdown. I then put the rubber band on just above the 1st knuckle. Kind of makes the tip of the finger swell up. Since I...

    Colloidal Silver Interaction???

Thanks Ross!! That research was VERY helpful. I will rethink whether I even want to take the stuff, even if there is no interaction w/warfarin. Thanks again.

    Colloidal Silver Interaction???

Thanks for the input so far. I have also seen the story about the man w/the blue skin. If I remember he took large doses, much more than is ever recommended. I'm trying to see if anyone on the board is taking Colloidal Silver and has seen any interaction w/their warfarin.

    Colloidal Silver Interaction???

Does anyone take colloidal silver? I can't find any references, either on this board or by googling it, to see if there have been any known interactions with colloidal silver. It is usually used as an immune booster and supposedly helps fight off colds/flu etc. My INR has been on the low side...

    Need help obtaining a sample

I use a simple diabetic lancet set on the deepest setting (6). The main thing, however, that someone suggested was use a small rubberband on the finger just before doing the test. Since I've done that, I have always gotten a good sample. Don't know if this will help but it's worked for me.

    Africa Trip - Vaccinations?

Thanks for the suggestions. Yes, our trip is for pleasure. Besides attending a religious convention, we will be doing the Safari thing. We are also planning a side trip to Seychelles. So, all the suggestions are helpful. Main concern right now is whether the vaccinations react with my INR...

    Africa Trip - Vaccinations?

We are planning a trip to Kenya next year. Looks like there is a recommendation for vaccinations for Hepatitis A; Typhoid & Yellow fever. Does anyone know if there are interactions w/ any of these and Warfarin? Can't find much on this. Also, any other precautions, other than the common-sense...

    Coaguchek II Testing

Rubber Band Helps Rubber Band Helps One suggestion that was given that I have used with good success: Before you do the finger stick, put a rubber band lightly around the finger you will stick. I use small rubber bands and lap it twice. Then when I stick myself, I get a good drop every time...

tips for getting a good blood draw??

One of the members suggested using a small rubber-band on the finger you are going to stick. I started doing that and it really does help. I let my arm hang down until I'm ready to put the strip into the XS. I take a small rubber-band and wrap it once or twice around the finger, just above the...

South Beach Diet & Low INR

Inr Up Inr Up Thanks for all the posts. With my 15% increase in warfarin, my INR this morning is 2.4 :D Still not as high as I need it, but at least going the right direction. Will continue the higher dose and the diet and test again in 4 or 5 days to make sure I don't let it too high...
