    Warfarin Protocol Initiated!

Looking at your post again, I think the issue is that your clinician seems to think that 7mg is your maintenance dose. But how can he know that with confidence? By definition, your maintenance dose is the one that keeps your INR between 2-3. That is a different number for everybody and can also...

CONGRATS and WELCOME TO THE OTHER SIDE. The surgeon did his job. Now comes the hard work on your part to work on your recovery, keep moving and exercise over the next year to allow your heart to recover as well as possible. Best of luck going forward.

    Warfarin Protocol Initiated!

Hi Seaton, I had very similar issues when I first started warfarin with my Anti-coag clinic in the UK. I was around 1.7 to 1.8 and they were only increasing my weekly dosage by 1mg or so (when I was taking 5mg a day or so). After four weeks of this and them wondering why we are still not...

    4th procedure

I always think in complex cases like this, it is best to go with medical advice. Of course there is a question of what happens when the TVMR wears out....

    Best mechanical valve?

@nobog My point was that the clinical results are the same. Randomised control trial says ON-X and St Jude show that clinical results are the same https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/36590733/ Randomised control trial showing carbomedics, ATS and St Jude showing the same clinical results...

@tjay There is four major valve manufacturers. They are all the same, but also all slightly different. 1) St Jude. This is the original bileaflet valve model, which all current ones are based on. This valve has been around since 1979, so has by far the longest history in studies. There are...

    Fourth surgery anyone?

@Gail in Ca In the UK, there is this doctor, https://londonmitralclinic.com/team_members/toufan-bahrami/, who has done 500 minimally invasive mitral valve repairs via endocospy. I.e. the access through your rib cage. Here is the interesting bit of his webpage: Beating Heart Mitral valve...

    Ross vs Mechanical

@Pixelgrowth I got an On-X 25mm. I dont know if this is the standard result, but mine gives an mean gradient of 5 and peak gradient of 8/10 depending on Echo. they said 5 is pretty close to normal. INR management hasnt been an issue for me, other than the food poisoning episode where it went...

    Fourth surgery anyone?

@Gail in Ca I think it is probably fair to ask the surgeon how many reops he has done previously with the robotic approach. I would also ask him to give you a probablility assesment what he thinks the risk of a conversion to a sternotomy are, how many sternotomies he has done, or whether there...

Surgery in a week! (Mechanical Bentall)

I am sure that you will be 100% fine. I will just add something on bio oil. I used bio oil and silcon on my sternal scar the second time around. I then got an infection on the outside of the scar. I totally freaked out and needed to have antibiotic cream on the outside, which took care of it...
