It has now been 6 weeks since my valve replacement op. Just wanted to update on the knocking sternum issue. Brought it up with my cardiologist. She said I was the first patient to report such an occurrence. She says it’s most likely an acoustic effect from the mechanical valve. Taking deep...
Thanks! I have 2 scabs. One at the top and one at the bottom of the incision. It has been 4 weeks. I suppose I’ll wait for the scabs to fall off before applying medication.
May I ask what it means to wait until the wound has fully closed before applying creams or gels? If I remember correctly, my chest incision has been closed since day 1 haha. Just deliberating whether I should should using Dermatix 5 weeks post op
I see the term “dissolve” thrown about a lot. For me my stitches just fell off in the shower. Is that what it is? My scar is just one red pinkish line down my chest now.
Heya, it has been 4 weeks since my AVR surgery. Can I start applying some creams for to lighten my chest incision scar now? Does anyone have any recommendations please?
Mine was a valve replacement. Surgeon went in meaning to fix my ascending aorta as well but after inspection, he made the call that it was unnecessary to repair the aneurysm just yet. Also, surgeon says I can no longer run as hard as I used to. ( 10km daily) I was quite affected!

Some 12 days post op, I developed a knocking sensation in my chest in tandem with my heart beat. It intensifies every time I take deep breaths. It’s not painful but uncomfortable. Doctor says it goes away with time but could not explain the source/cause of it. Has anyone...
The topmost bit of my chest incision started discharging a red translucent liquid. The rest of the wound is fine. Should I go to the hospital to check it out?
It’s now post op day 11. Breathing is better now.. doctor says my lungs have fully expanded. Should I still continue with the spirometer? Developed a left shoulder ache. How can I keep my upper body joints flexible? Thank you very much
there is a gauze over the wound where they took out the drainers from. I’m having the stitches from the drainers removed this Thursday. Can I remove the gauze in the interim? It’s been on for 4 days now and it’s starting to itch
i think they won’t be calling me back for cardiac rehab during the covid period. We’ll see if things get better. Are there any good exercises I can do at home in the interim? Going home tomorrow T+6
Thanks for the encouraging words. Yes, I’ve been whiling the hours on the spirometer and it does take abit of pain off.. what’s a good “inspired volume” to target?
