    Sternum clicking and popping?

I'm still popping and clicking after 6 weeks, mostly in the evening after spending the day outside, walking around our land, over the river and through the woods. Not a lot, and it seems like it's mostly near the bottom of my incision, and sometimes a bit on the left side. It feels a bit...

    Walking post surgery

Thanks everyone. I was out cutting firewood and loading logs two weeks before surgery. I knew I'd need AVR since I had a bicuspid valve, but at nearly 67 years old I was told I was two to three years away from surgery. I was getting increasingly symptomatic, though and went to MSP VAMC for an...

    St. Jude Trifecta tissue valve

Thanks Fundy...I suspected it was something like that. Well...in 15 years I'll be 82 and I hope things will have progressed by then. For now, I'm just recuperating. Too late to turn back.

    Walking post surgery

I've been walking around the yard, garden and orchard since I returned home...I get tired fairly easily. I had surgery on the 26th for AVR and triple bypass. I have been trying to do this routine 4 or 5 times each day. How much is too much? How much is too little? I realise everything is...

After your surgery, what are some of the things that you found out that surprised you

I have to say that the ICU was a relative piece of cake. No insulin drip, no catcher mitt hands...tube came out without a hitch. Left hospital 6 days after having surgery. They would have left me out on Halloween, but my wife didn't like driving to the cities from the woods here...4.5 hours...

    St. Jude Trifecta tissue valve

I came through my surgery well, am home and getting about back in the woods. I just got a card in the mail which said I have a TF-21 heart valve from St Jude, also. I kinda remember a surgeon in the ICU saying the other surgeon was hoping to get at least a 23mm valve in, but the opening was...

After your surgery, what are some of the things that you found out that surprised you

I'm going in for AVR and double or triple bypass on Monday morning. Reading this thread has been both reassuring and frightening. In hospital now and have been since my angiogram Tuesday. Yikes. It's boring. Sounds like a casino in this area. Live 4 hours north in the middle of a state forest...

    Worried about my wife.

My wife and 37 year old daughter are going to be with each other in the surgery waiting room Monday morning. I'm trying not to overly express my fears and anxiety to them. I'm glad they'll be together come what may.

How bad is the pain? Set to have surgery in 12 days.

I'm in hospital now. VA in MSP. Knew I had to have an AVR eventually but was getting exceedingly worn out while lifting, etc. came for a heart cath and angio which found 70% blockage in left main which means double by pass. Also a blockage on right side which may need by pass. Tissue valve (cow)...

Haven't checked in for awhile. Appreciate you all being here.

Well...I mis-wrote the other day. My stenosis last year was between 1.2 and 1.4 cm2...with this check up the cardiologist says I'm at 1.1 to 1.3 cm2...I need knee replacement as well and have been holding off to find out more about my heart. The cardiologist suggests I go ahead now with my...

Haven't checked in for awhile. Appreciate you all being here.

I have another cardiology appointment at the VA in Fargo tomorrow...I'll know better then what my status is. Last year in May my aortic stenosis was at 0.8 cm2, which is the same as it was the previous year. I am asymptomatic, although I do 'run out of gas' earlier than I used to. I am a 65...

This is my first post...in need of support

I'm thankful for any and all responses. It's good to learn from people with experience on the subject.

This is my first post...in need of support

I'm sorry I wasn't clear. It was the first cardiologist, the locum from East India, who couldn't add/subtract and said I'd be close to 70 when I needed replacement. The staff cardiologist (on 3 month follow up) said I'd need to have my valve replaced in 3 to 4 years probably. I'm very active...

This is my first post...in need of support

I recently went in to my primary care physician for a pre op physical for partial/total right knee replacement. During the course of my physical she heard a pronounced murmur where there had only been a slight one in the past. For 30 years I've been told that I had a mitral valve...
