    Awake and recovering

Congratulations on your uneventful surgery. It takes a while for the INR to get in range. It took me a few days. Good luck. Walk as much as you can. That helps.

    Tooth Extraction

I bit my tongue a few years ago while on warfarin and I could not stop the bleeding. I felt like an idiot and really did not want to go to the emergency room. After about 2 hours of trying everything (tea bags, gauze etc), I started googling suggestions. I found a product called "Bleed Stop"...

    On-X and Lower INR Protocol

I've had an ON-X valve since 2017. My Cardiologist recommended range is 2 to 3. I'm happy with this range. So far it has worked for me, and if my INR does get a bit lower at times I still feel safe having an ON-X valve and the low does aspirin regimen.

Survey for developing a device that minimizes clicking sound (follow-up to interviews in Spring)

I've had my On-X valve for over 6 years now. I have a lean build. I honestly don't notice the noise at all. I did for the first month or so. But now I don't even know it's there, unless I think about it. Also, I would think that the noise is coming from more internal sources than external.

Valve ok but something else, Amiodarone

I was on amiodarone for a few months post surgery for Afib issiues. I ended up having my doctor take me off of it due to various issues. Amiodarone is a useful but powerful drug. If you research the drug, you will find out that it can cause numerous issues both short and long term.

Lovenox for bridging with a Mechanical Valve

Over the past 6 years I have bridged with lovenox several times for various medical and dental procedures. Bridging with Lovenox is a standard procedure for mechanical heart valve patients. I would ask your doctor why he/she feels that bridging with Lovenox is questionable. As mentioned...

Post Surgery long-term followup with cardiologist

I have a mechanical heart valve as well as a synthetic aortic graft. I usually see my Cardiologist every 6 months for routine checkups. I get an echocardiogram every year and a chest x-ray every 2 years or so.

How get used to permanent metal click after aortic valve replacement

As mentioned by others, after awhile you get used to the ticking, I have an On-X valve and rarely notice the sound anymore. Look at it this way, when you hear the sound it means you are still alive. It sure beats the alternative.

    Routine tooth cleaning - Precautions

I have an ON X Aortic Valve also. I have never been asked to skip a dose of warfarin before a routine dental cleaning appointment. I take 2000 MG of an antibiotic one hour before my dental appointment. This seems to be the accepted practice for preparing for a dental cleaning. I have never...

Confidence...if only there was a pill

What you are experiencing is normal. You would not be human if you were not apprehensive about major surgery. However, you are still young. I'm sure you will do well with your surgery. Valve replacement surgery is pretty routine these days. Find a good surgeon and a good hospital and you...

I just got a 90 day refill of warfarin last week by mail from CVS. According to the CVS web site there are no current drug shortages at this time.
