Exercise and stress with Aortic Aneurysm

My dh had AR with Bentall procedure and MVR 8 months ago. He was dx with aortic aneurysm about 10 years ago when he was in his early 50s, so he was "in the waiting room" for a long time. The first cardiologist he saw said "you are the first person I've seen alive with this condition" (great...

13 Days Post Ross Procedure - BAV

Not sure how "normal" that is, but that's what my husband complained of most, lower back pain when walking - not the chest area at all. It took several weeks for the lower back pain to resolve. I wondered if it had anything to do with spending most of the time (day and nights) in the recliner?

To Do Cardic Rehab or Not?

My DH just "graduated" from cardio rehab - twice a week for 12 weeks. He started 2 weeks after OHS - which seems a lot sooner than most others I've seen on this site, but it was really motivating to him. He was in pretty good shape before OHS but you'd think he was training for an Iron Man...

    Having babies?!

My husband has diagnosed with the condition 10 years ago. We haven't verified if any others in his family have had it, though the doctors have always told us it was hereditary. Both of our, then, teenaged daughters were checked with ultrasound or echo (I can't remember which one) and they are...

Question re staying in ICU with hubby first night...

We, too, live about 45 min from hospital (if the traffic is ok). I could have stayed but the hospital staff encouraged me to go home. I'm glad I did. My nerves were pretty shot and there was very little I could have done if I had stayed. I was able to call any time I wanted to see how he was...

I am new to this site, having AVR week after Thanksgiving

Good luck to you. My DH had OHS 9 weeks ago. Fatigue, yes. Neck, shoulder, sternum pain, no. He's doing very well now - gaining endurance and weight (he had no appetite for several weeks but that's getting better, too). Get 'er done.

Still having lots of pain and depression 6 weeks post-op....any ideas?

My husband started feeling like himself at about 6 weeks - when he could drive again. That lifted his spirits tremendously and he could finally see that he was making progress and life was getting back to normal. I still see him "tear up" sometimes (he's 8 weeks post op now), which is definitely...

what to take to the hospital - a checklist

Someone awhile back suggested having some treats for the staff. I made a huge batch of cookies and took a gallon sized bag to the hospital - left them in my husband's ICU room before he was even transferred there and told the nurse that came out of surgery every now and then to give us an...

New here--Mitral Valve Replacement very soon...

Waiting is the hardest part. My DH was in the "waiting room for about 10 years" - worrying about both an aortic root dilation/aneurysm and MVR. We were told back then that OHS with valve replacement(s) would be inevitable. That's a long time to always have that in the back of one's mind. Still...

He was so pleased with himself because he was finally starting to put some weight back on. B ut now, with all that fluid gone, he has lost all the pounds he had gained. I have to push food on him again. sigh
