Not sure exactly what your asking here Dennis, but I hope this helps you on your quest;

The phrase "As the crow flies" refers to the shortest route between two points A variation is "by the crow flies."

An example would be the distance between Key West and Pensacola, at the two opposite ends of Florida, in the United States. The most direct route by road is about 792 miles (1,275 kilometers); but a measurement directly across the Gulf of Mexico is only 524 miles (843 kilometers)?as the crow flies.

What I meant to ask for was the distance-by air-from the Grand Canyon to, essentially, my deck. I am sure I saw something-and I am trying to find out if what I saw is supposed to be impossible, or just unusual.

My son uses google maps to do this sort of stuff...and some girls I know on a health forum do it to calculate how long their walks are...so it works over all distances!

you can download Google Earth. and I believe there is a way to calculate the distance from one point to another. You can find any spot on the entire globe and "fly" to wherever and see the terrain. You can actually see your house in detail. It is all from satellites, but not in real time. It's interesting.

Just Google Google Earth, and there will be a link. I have it on my computer.

Freddie-I'm not sure about Jemez Plaza. But I do get 305 miles from Jemez Springs to the Grand Canyon.

Nancy-we have had a house here for about 5 years, but I have never seen it show up on Google Earth. You can, however, see our road.
