Hello,
I have found the following at my local pharmacy:
30 pills of 2mg cost $16
60 pills of 3mg cost $26

To further cut costs it may be possible to order double strength of your daily dosage and split them in half.
My hubby's insurance covers 80% of the cost so I don't worry too much about it,
but I do order the 60 days worth for convenience.
I'm sure that your local WalMart would offer better prices, it's worth it to call them.

For me:
100 pills of 1mg costs $26.02
100 pills of 5mg costs $28.23

My S/O's insurance covers 100% of the cost of all prescriptions - up to $750.00 a year in total.

Cameron, there may be a price difference between Coumadin (brand name) and warfarin (generic); also (and I may be wrong here), I think online pharmacies are geared to Americans. Why not call your local pharmacist and ask?

Guys,
Can I clarify if Freddie and Bina are stating the cost AFTER the insurance payments pick up i.e. all they are quoting is a dispensing fee maybe, or are they quoting the full price of the medication. I will check this out further locally but there seems to be a big disconnect here somewhere.
Thanks,
Cameron

I'm guoting the full price. We then submit the prescription receipt to our insurance company.
We pay for it up front, then we get reimbursed.

Cameron, I ues the gen-Warfarin always did for 16 years and

here i get 150 total 39.74,but my insurance plan kicks in,and

so i forever have only paid a dispensing fee of .63 cents.

I've always taken 7 and 8 mg style and so only ever in i6 years

have used the 2 mg. type ive never been perscribed like the 5 mg

of warfarin or any other, stuck with 2 mg type only and i recall my

Doc saying it costs alot more for higher type dosages of warfarin

if you go into higher dosage pills example like 5,s or whatever strenght

they perscribe you but then the health coverage even shows me a

actual higher price they only pick up a certain % and i would have to

cover rest so it's good to get informed by your pharmacey regarding

savings of what dosages, they know better than a Dr as he is only good

for writing perscriptions, but pharmaceys can actually quote better for

you with coverage you have or dont have and then the doc can change

how you want your dosages to suit your cost needs.I know cost is more

the higher mg perscibed in warfarin. Check it out may be different in B.C.

Hmmmm....I just looked on an on-line pharmacy and they have 5mg Coumadin on at $226.95 for 90 pills - $2.52 per pill - am I missing something? Your prices don't match at all?
Stuart

Here in the U.S., it goes like this:

Coumadin - 5mg Tablets
Quantity Our Price
30 tablets $41.72
90 tablets $104.83
100 tablets $116.48
120 tablets $139.78
150 tablets $174.72
180 tablets $209.66

Warfarin Sodium - 5mg Tablets
Quantity Our Price
30 tablets $13.99 - save 30% ($6.00)
90 tablets $34.99 - save 42% ($24.97)
100 tablets $38.88 - save 42% ($27.74)
120 tablets $46.66 - save 42% ($33.29)
150 tablets $58.32 - save 42% ($41.61)
180 tablets $67.63 - save 44% ($52.29)

So, why is there such a big difference in price?
Or, is one paying for the name like one does when it comes to TV sets?
Both drugs are the same aren't they?
The word Sodium has me wondering.

Well for me it goes like this ................

Well for me it goes like this ................

because we have a drug plan and are seniors the fee is 35 cents.

The pharmacy I use recognizes seniors and does not charge the co-pay.

The cost of generic warfarin for us is zero.

lance, you are doing one better than I am, my drug plan is $2.00 per prescription; but, yes, I could go to another pharmacy that waives the $2.00 fee. mmmm, between DH and I, we do go through a lot of prescriptions in a month, maybe we should do that, and save a few bucks!

Not sure what they cost but for me My Lipitor and coumadin cost around $9.00 for 30 tabs of each and of course that`s at 80% insurance discount.

I only have to pay a $3.00 prescription fee for Warfarin.

Thanks everyone.
I will have a word with the local London Drugs or Walmart and see what they have to say. I did find this on the web, so my first web adventure obviously brought up either a wrong price or site that was gouging!

Since Andrew lost his insurance I have been looking into prices here -US/ Illinois- and Walmart has warfarin available for $4.oo for a thirty day supply and $9 or $10 for a 90 day supply. Fortunately all his genarics are available there for that price; its the two name brands that are over $100 each for a months supply that has got me sweating.

So this is one of the issues that I have with Coumadin. I have been on it since my valve replacement in 1991. Some of the prices I have paid over the years are as follows. I also believed that I had to be on name brand until I was forced not to be by my insurance companies, which happened about 5 years ago.

The cheapest I ever got name brand Coumadin was at the University of Arizona, where they were recognized as a hospital and were able to order me boxes of single serving doses. These were around 100/$5, depending on the dose a little more a little less.

Then just before I moved to Greece I was buying the generic which was somewhere around 30/$15.

Now that I am in Greece they only have one generic called Panwarfarin, which costs a little less than 20/$2, depending on which pharmacy you go to. You also do not need a prescription for it.

This is part of the reason that I get frustrated with paying over a dollar a pill for name brand Coumadin, since they will sell it to hospitals for $0.05. On top of that the generic in Greece without a prescription costs about $0.08 after conversion of currency.
