Warning guys it's a girl thing. I started beeding heavily at 3 am .And Dr. Akins feels it's not good to do it with the high doses of heparin on the bypass machine. so now I have to call my GYN and get it taken care of , if she gives me something and stops it now he will do it as soon as he can..I had a uterine ablation in May 07 which has somewhat helped untill today...Going crazy and it's a very short trip.

Hi ~ I'm so sorry to hear your surgery has been postponed...it has to be very frustrating! I hope you get the bleeding taken care of and can have your surgery soon. Best wishes, Dawn-Marie

Sorry to read this, but I think the surgeon is correct.
A problem not frequently mentioned on the site is the amount of bleeding many women experience (if they're stilling having periods) after the surgery.
In my case, I started the first day post-op and bled like a stuck pig for 10 days afterwards.:mad: What an unpleasant surprise!

I broached the subject on the forum, and other women responded that they had dealt with the same issue.

I know you hate to put it off, but in this case, it's probably best. When you get the new date, let us know and we'll put you back on the calendar!:)

So sorry to read of your delay. It has to be very difficult on you emotionally. Hopefully your gyn will prescribe something to make it possible for you to get your surgery re-scheduled quickly.

Good luck. Let us know.

Did you go to MGH today for the pretesting or was that cancelled as well?

So sorry for the delay. I hope it is taken care of soon and you can post back with a new date in the near future.

Hope you are feeling better soon and your OB gets your straightened out. I know how nervous everyone gets waiting for their surgery. Sorry your date got canceled, but better safe than sorry.

Sorry to hear about having to reschedule and I hope you get a new date soon. I had no idea that the surgery itself could trigger a menstrual cycle. Guess I have something new to add to my packing list. What a drag.

I had a DVT in my rt groin way back in 1981. I was treated aggressively with heparin IV and antibiotics for 2 weeks in the hospital and then was required to maintain a 11 to 12 second PT time.

My first cycle came along after my release from care. But due to the heavy bleeding I was admitted to the small military base hospital where I was posted for blood pressure monitoring. The medic had to wake me twice because he couldn't get a reading while I was sleeping. Menstrual bleeding is just as serious as any other type and thankfully, I never had another occurence once I stabalized on coumadin. I blame the problem that time on heparin.

The big decision today is which surgery first? I would just as soon get the MVR done and over with, If I can stay on the hormones to keep the bleeding away. Hopefully every month won't be THAT bad and I can deal with that issue later...

I must have missed the decision about a GYN surgery. I know you had to postpone your surgery but didn't realize you now need hysterectomy??

Sorry to hear you have this..... if I have understood properly.

Todays news is, I have a huge polyp or fibroid that is so big is dialating my cervix.Which is the cause of the bleeding. So tomorrow I have an u/s to see where it is and if it can be removed or if it's surgery time for that.

Louanne..... So sorry to hear this. This has to be so stressful for you. Sending you very best wishes.

Not sure if you are having mechanical or tissue, but my advice if you are having mechanical - go ahead and get your uterus removed prior to valve replacement. Keep your ovaries if possible so you don't go into instant menopause. LAVH is a major surgery with a minimal recovery period. I was up and about almost immediately. It shouldn't delay your valve replacement by much. As many others have mentioned in various threads, many women experience screwed up menstrual cycles after valve replacement if they are on Coumadin. It's better to have LAVH (or any hysterectomy) prior to going on Coumadin so you don't have to worry about Lovenox bridging.

I, too, like Lisa, found that having a LAVH was really a non-issue. Spent one night in the hospital and was up and about just fine the next day. Not even any pain really. I kept my ovaries as well and I must say it is nice not having to deal with all of that anymore. I became anemic before I had it done from bleeding so much.

The things we girls have to do...I wish you luck and put my vote in for finalising any girly issues before your heart surgery. I am sure you will do just fine once its all sorted.
