This time of the year the sun rises over the ocean out here on Fire Island. This morning the sunrise was beautiful. Enjoy it as we remember those we lost seven years ago.

Beautiful picture and as I posted in Heart Talk...GOD BLESS AMERICA today and everyday.

I remember Sept 11, 2001 was such a picture-perfect day -- cloudless and beautiful. Then the atrocious attack on our country began. At that time, I was working in Arlington, Va., just a few miles from the Pentagon. Drove by the Pentagon every day. On that day of infamy, I happened to be working at home. I could have been one of the casualties -- as it was, friends and neighbors were killed.

I remember the eerie feeling of our country being under attack; of that additional hijacked plane still being in the air and on the way to hit the U.S. Capitol or the White House. This was war against America.

I am not going to inject politics, but we should never forget. We should never take our freedoms for granted.

May God bless America.

Thanks for your post, Superbob. I'm glad you survived the attack and condolences on the friends and neighbors you lost. I guess 9-11 is another of those events that are frozen in your mind. If you were alive when JFK was assinated, chances are you remember exactly where you were and what you were doing when you heard that horrible news.

At around 10 AM on September 11, 2001, I was on the island and on my computer checking my morning emails. I received an email from a friend telling me to turn on the television set to watch what was happening in New York City. Later on during the day I walked down to the dock on the Great South Bay where the residents of Cherry Grove had gathered in shock to watch the smoke plume from Ground Zero, which was clearly visible 60 miles away in Manhattan.

I'll never forget the feeling of overwhelming sadness of that day.

I was at work and it was a beautiful day. One of the owners and I had just decided to slip out for a round of golf ? I was waiting for him and when I got tired of it I went to his office to see what the hold up was ? he was sitting with tears in his eyes (I could not see the TV from the door) ? he pointed to the TV with out a word ? I stepped in and collapsed in a chair ?. We did not move or speak for what seemed like hours?.

I left work earlier than usual and met my DW at the door, we embraced and cried. Our world has never been the same.

being a native NYer its still not right when I drive home and see the skyline minus the Twin Towers. Fortunately I didn't lose any family THAT day, but have lost the sons of close friends and lost some of my sons friends as well in Afganastan and Iraq. Say a prayer for all our men and women who are out there putting their butts on the line for us. I think our troops and their families deserve ALOT more support (financial and emotional) than they currently get.

Im totally hip with the idea of offering every soldier who serves in a war zone for at least one full tour a free ride for college when they return. Obama put that out there and I don't care who gets elected, thats a peice of legislation I think everyone should get behind.

The darkess day in American indeed! A day none of us will ever forget, nor should we.

I remember arriving at work that morning to find many of my co-workers huddled in our dispatchers office surrounding the television set, in tears & holding each other!

God rest the souls of all those who perished that day.

I too remember and will never forget the day or those that perished.
