I got to meet my surgeon today, Dr. Mark Bodenhamer of the Oklahoma Heart Hospital. He was super nice and even though this was our first meeting he walked in and seemed to be very knowledgeable about my history and heart events without referring to paperwork or the computer. He had done his homework before our appt. and that impressed me from the beginning.
The best news yet is that he feels fairly confident that he can do the less invasive robotic surgery. He has been performing these and even has a short video clip that has been on the local news. He also thinks that repair is very possible instead of replacement. I am very excited about that.
AND HE HAS A SENSE OF HUMOR!! He seems to be very down to earth, very easy to talk to and willing to answer any questions that I might have.
If anyone is interested I found this video explaining this procedure and would be interested to hear from anyone that has had this type of surgery. http://davincisurgery.com/procedures/cardiothoracic/mvr_patient_seminar.aspx
We did discuss the possibility of me needing a replacement if things don't go as he expects but he is a big advocate of repair vs. replacement and with this type of robotic surgery he is able to see the valve so much clearly and do what it takes to get the surgery done correctly.
I still need to have a CAT scan next Wednesday and then my angiogram and TEE on August 15 and then hopefully I will be all set to go on the 28th. I'm ready! Start the countdown.
