Hi, I'm new. I had my aortic valve and root replaced on March 13th and am just getting back to work (ugg!). Everything has gone well and the warfarin hasn't bothered me any, except I crave cheese :D. I did have one setback that was a buildup of fluid around my heart. I went into the hospital where they drained off 750 ML, and then another 500ML drained over night.

I feel great and look forward to getting information, tips, and stories from you all.

I had my surgery at St. Josephs here in Baltimore. Excellent surgeon and staff, hospital? eeehhh!

Thanks

Welcome.

Sounds like all is very well with you. Can't address the cheese/warfarin connection issue as I have always craved cheese.;):D

The fluid problem is very common but glad yours was resolved quickly.

Glad you have joined us.

Good to hear from you and particularly that you are back to work and doing well.

I was only on warfarin briefly but no one ever told me there was an interaction of cheese and warfarin. I'm interested to hear about that.

Hope things continue to go well for you.

After six and a half years on warfarin, I still don't like processed cheese; I want to hold out for the real stuff!
Welcome to our group, where a sense of humor comes in handy.

Thanks for the warm welcome! Its really reassuring to have the experience of others who have gone through the procedure.

Warfarin was rat poison where I grew up, so, you know, cheese....rats.., alright, bad joke attempt. ;)

Actually, I'm enthusiastic about snapping a pic with a tawdry shirt on! :D

Oh, I get it!!!!!!! :D Welcome! We're glad you found us. How's the INR testing and dosing going? Have you looked into home testing? Check out the Anticoagulation Forum here at VR and look at the stickies. See if it jibes with what you've been told.

LOL like your sense of humor. Welcome glad you are doing well and wish you a continude good recovery.

Welcome to VR. Glad you found us. Sorry to hear about the fluid set-back. I know what that's like as I had to get drained, too. Otherwise, it sounds like you are doing fine. I assume from your avatar that you ride. Have you tried riding post-op yet?

Yep, I've been riding. It is a little hard on the chest, but I've done about 250 miles so far. And 20 miles on my bicycle. so far so good.

I have considered home testing, right now I'm stable at 2.3 taking 2.5 mg 6 days a week and 5 mg on Mondays. I'm amazed, I haven't had any issues at all. Its the same dose as I've had since 3 weeks after surgery. Cool! I have checked out the forum, a lot more information, and more realistic, than what I've been given.

One thing that has stuck out was that before the operation, I didn't know one person personally who had it. Since I've had the operation, I've found out 2 co-workers, close co-workers (one I car pooled with for a year) have had the operation and I didn't know it. Neighbors, friends, friends or friends, Amazing eh?
