Hi All,

Just thought I would share the results of my echo cardiogram and 24 hour monitor performed as part of my 6 month check up after aortic valve replacement. I think it proves that the procedure definitely works !!!

I have two conditions, left ventricular non compaction (LVNC) and a bicuspid aortic valve which has subsequently been replaced with a sorin bicarbon mechanical valve (June 07). Before the valve replacement my left ventricle was dilated and was continuing to dilate as the valve deteriorated and the regurgitation progressed to severe. This combined with my LVNC was resulting in a quick progression to congestive heart failure. My ejection fraction was down to 39% and falling and i had frequent palpitations. All bad news basically. I was still pretty fit but I was finding that I was going downhill fast.

The 6 month check up results have just arrived and it's all good news. The left ventricle has stopped dilating and has even reduced in size. It is now functioning very well. My ejection fraction is now up to 66% and there is no need for a check up for another year. They even think that the LVNC might have been a red herring and although I defintely have the condition it's prognosis is still not well known.

This is one happy person at this moment in time. I'm feeling good and very positive about the future. It's amazing what can be done.

Thanks
