A few points before I get into the subject...

1 ... I had a good 4th of July.

2 ... I realized I really want to be a weather person ... be paid 100% of the time, even if I'm wrong. The forecast, of course, for the 4th of July called for clouds and rain. So, I believed them. Instead, we had mostly sunshine today. But, I didn't get the older 4 Monte Carlos out (they still have not seen road pavement in 2007), I took the time to travel to have lunch with some good friends ... and meet their new, 2-week-old daughter. Course, not much else on my list got accomplished ... go figure ;).

3 ... The trip to Freeport IL was a bit selfish of me, too ... because it's been a LONG time since I did a full-fledged "road trip". So, this mini-road trip (less than 2 hours one way) did me a world of good ... good to DRIVE a while again (and NOT be in traffic) ... good to see my friends from the 1st gen MC club ... and good to meet the newest person I can corrupt.

...which brings me to the topic ... kids. For some reason, most kids seem to love me ... and I can't explain it. I do my best to corrupt them, too...he he. Course, maybe my attempts are thwarted because the lil buggers know I love 'em, too....

*rolls eyes*

At the church I had attended (where my grandfather last pastored), the kids called me "cello man" (I play the cello).

College friends in Ohio have 2 boys, who, when I visited last August, discovered how fun it is to pop the bubbles (especially the big ones) that I was blowing. So, I outsmarted them. I blew a bunch of smaller ones. Then, while they (well, mostly the oldest boy) scurried to pop all of those, I blew some really big ones.

Other college friends in Tennessee now have 3 kids. Their eldest knows me the most, as I visit them at least once a year during my travels to Nashville/Jackson. In fact, she knows me too well. Last summer, after the MC Nationals just north of Nashville, I traveled to Jackson TN to visit them. Except, their eldest was in northern Indiana visiting some grandparents. My friends decided not to tell her I was going to be there, since they knew she'd want to come home to see me. Anyway, the night I was there, they did their nightly talk over the internet/camera. They had me stand back in the room, far enough back (so they thought) that she wouldn't see me. But, what were the first words out of her mouth? "Is that CORT back there?!?!" So much for that. He he.

I have some Monte Carlo-related buddies in various states whose kids keep asking when I'm going to see them again. Sadly, one of those I haven't seen in years. And, when they lived within an hour drive of me, I saw them a lot ... and, didn't realize how much their youngest thought of me. I need to find time to see them again.

Heh ... as I held Tori this afternoon, I told her parents that, in about 16-18 years, I'll be able to look her in the eye and tell her that I "held her when" she was just 2 weeks old. It is always weird to me when the older adults in my life can say, "I knew you when"; it'll be FUN to be able to return the favor with Tori and all of the other kids I know ;).

So ... do you get along with kids? Have any humorous stories to share?

I ADORE kids!
When my daughter entered school I was missing the hands on care of toddlers so I began babysitting part time. It became almost full time as word spread of an alternative to having a cranky teenager sitter.
My speciality is the really young ones.....Feed 'em, change 'em, cuddle 'em. I've helped raise 3 babies in one family.I had to stop when my heart got bad....and I miss the monkeys so much...

My neighbours have the most verbal, enjoyable, nuisance of a 6 yr old boy :)
Here is a typical conversation:
Me: Hi, Loel. how ya doing?
Lo: I'm good. It's my birthday on Saturday.
Me: Isn't your birthday on Sunday?
Lo: No, this year it's on Saturday because that's when Mom is having her garage sale.
Me: Oh, you are celebrating with a garage sale? cool.
Lo: Ya. cool.
Me: Here comes your Dad showing off his tattoos!
Lo: My Mom has a tattoo....
Me: I don't know about that, I've never seen it.
Lo: that's because it's on her butt........(Dad is cringing)
Me: Maybe you mean it's low on her back.
Lo: Nope. it is right here (pointing to his butt) (Dad is now asking him to run along)
Me: Wait Loel, tell Mommy to show it at her garage sale.
Lo: (giggling) I don't know about that.
Me: I'll give you 5 bucks.
Lo: Really? cool, thanks!

I am actually allergic to kids which is why I don't have any.;) :D :D

I can tolerate them for very brief times and then I get SOB, break out in hives and have to run and hide so I don't explode. ;) :D

Serously tho, I do like kids in small batches. My patience level has just changed as I have gotten older.

I love kids! I am a preschool teacher, so that is my favorite age. It is a thrill for me to see how my class each year changes and grows throughout the school year-it happens so fast. They says the funniest things-and the hugs are the best. It is also a hoot when I see kids from my class out somewhere-a store, etc. You can just see them thinking "What is she doing here?"
A super touching thing happened this year involving children...when my dad passed away in Feb, my son's class (he was a third grader) made cards for him. One of his classmates had me in tears with this saying on his card. "I am so sorry about your grandpa Daniel-but remember-once a family member always a family member." So sweet from such a young person! Deb

Oh, you have to know that I LOVE kids. As a matter of fact, I've got babies on the brain. Perhaps that's because my sister just had a baby exactly one month ago. And I've never been so in love in my life! :D I was lucky enough to be the first person to hold him after he was born (other than his parents and the doctor/nurses). I also spent the first week and a half at my sister's house helping take care of him, even getting to sleep with him half of each night (and all of the one that my sister lost it ;) ). I miss him SO much, and will be going down to baby sit him in one week (my sister has a conference to attend and isn't ready to give him over to a babysitter). I sent my sister an email the other day saying I'd be coming down "the 13th or 14th" just to let her know. Her response was "The 13th sounds good."

I also love the todlers. While I was staying at my sister's house she had freinds come over with their 2 year old little boy. He was such a cutie, and decided that all of the dogs' toys that were in their basket needed to decorate the entire living room. When it was time for them to go his mom told him to clean up and sing the "clean up song." So I started to sing the "clean up song" along with him. His mom said "What?! You know the words?! Can you teach them to me?!" Apparently he'd learned the song from day care and sang it all the time, but his parents could never understand what he was saying! I made their day when I taught them what he was singing! ;)

Oh, yeah. And then there's that whole "I'm a school librairan" thing. ;)

Glad to hear your stories of the kids who love you. Thanks for sharing.

I loved babies. I couldn't get enough of them growing up. I would babysit anything that was in diapers. I once babysat a 3 month old very small premie and 3 month old baby at the same time at a very busy resort.

Fast Foward 30 +years, 2 kids and 10++ years of being a nurse, and I love to "look" at babies from a distance. The one thing I can honestly say is that more than anything we have to look foward to in the fuutre, we hope to be grandparents....(Writing this @ 37 I hope that it is not right around the corner!!) I hope that one day I can be available to babysit my grandbabies and watch them grow up, as I feel I missed so much with my kids.

My favorite quote from my son, @ 2 years...

"Why are boys born with the tails on the wrong side???" :D
