Total bummer. I'm sure you are worn out and frustrated. But I'm also sure that you recognize that that deep little core of strength that you've nurtured over the years is in there, ready, once again, to carry you through this latest event. You know how to call upon it. Do not be stubborn about opening that door.

Your doctors will help you make the right decision about timing. Your nephew will be a bundle of joy no matter what age you get to hold him.....it's not like a baby's cuteness diminishes with time!! ;)

Hang in there Niki! Keep the fight alive.

Marguerite

Niki, ditto all above. I think a majorly self-indulgent weekend is called for - this really sucks.

All my best thoughts & prayers coming your way.

Niki, so sorry to hear about the latest. Hugs & prayers are coming your way. I sincerely hope everything works out for the best for you.

Here's the latest:

I talked to Dr. Pearse this afternoon (didn't get a chance to call DeVille this morning and had a message from Pearse as I was leaving work). She talked with DeVille and as they were discussing it they figured out that the x-ray was saved into the computer BACKWARDS! So he was thinking my heart was on the left (don't know why, since it was a topic of discussion at the echo). Anyway, with that information he was a tiny bit less confident than before. He is going to talk to the EP at the Mayo, send them the x-ray so they can compare it to my post-op x-ray, and they will determine a game plan. We're all HOPING it will be fine to do the surgery here. But they are leaving it up to the Mayo to determine. So right now, 'Prayers, start your engines!' I do not want to go back to MN if I can help it.

So at this point we're still waiting, but at least I know what I'm waiting on. Dr. Pearse said hopefully we'll know something Monday or Tuesday. I hope she's right!

On a positive note, I found out that insurance has approved my getting a new home INR monitor and it should be delivered on Tuesday. Yea! No more lab draws! :)

What am I going to do with you (and me!)? Still praying for the best.

You'll love home testing. You'll never want to set foot in a lab again!

I already know that! Remember, I had a ProTime for 4 years, but it's now causing more problems than it's worth. I had a couple of tests left when I started the process to get the INRatio, but by the time my cardiologist sent the paperwork in I was already finished with all of them. So I had to start going back to the lab (and when my INR went up to 7 my cardiologist finally sent in the paperwork). It's only been a 2 weeks since she sent it in, so now I know that if she'd turned it in when I gave it to her I would have had it before I ran out of ProTime tests. She does feel bad, so at least there's that... Oh, well.

Thanks for the prayers. You know you're always in mine!

Niki,

Waiting is always the hardest part.... BUT, congrats on your new machine! Ahhh...that "new machine" smell ... he he.

Hmmm....I wonder if Dr. DeVille drives a Cadillac...?

Niki,
I'm glad to know you're home testing again. That's got to make your life a bit easier again.

Here's the latest:

Grr!!! Do these people not realize that they have my life hanging in the ballance?! I realize that my particular situation may not be at the very top of their priority list, but why does it require ME calling THEM for ANYTHING to happen?

So here's the deal. I called DeVille's office today and left a message with his nurse. Around 6:00 he finally called me back and said that 'We're going to send your x-ray to the Mayo.' What's this 'going'?! Shouldn't it have been done already? Why does it take this long to do it? On top of that, the guy is asking ME for the name of the doctor I saw while I was up there. I said I couldn't remember the name of the EP, but Dr. Phillips was the one that referred me to him and I'd bet she knows!

So essentially, nothing has even been done. I couldn't find the guy's name in any of the paperwork I have on hand, so I told Dustin (the nurse) that I would keep looking and call if I found it. I went online and looked at all the Drs. names and finally found one that looked familiar. I will call first thing in the morning and leave a message. Hopefully that means that they will send stuff TOMORROW and not a week from now!

GRRR!!! Why do people not realize that, while not a huge deal to THEM, it is ENORMOUS to the patient???? I am SO frustrated right now. I don't understand why I have to do their job for them. What would have happended if I hadn't called? Would the x-ray ever be sent? Or would I just sit here in limbo-land? So much for my hope to get this over with soon. :(

But on a positive note: I got my INRatio today! :D I'll be getting a training call tomorrow evening, then I'll be all set.

Sorry this is so frustrating for you. But the bright-side is your new INRatio. I know you're going to love love love it, particularly after your ProTime machine frustrations. I used to get so anxious anytime I tested with the ProTime, just wondering how many blown strips I'd have. That's all gone with my INRatio.

Niki,

Very sorry this is all so frustrating to you, but I know what you mean........

Thoughts/prayers continuing for you, as you know.

I think it'd be ironically cool if Dr. DeVille drives a Cadillac DeVille ;).

I always think of Cruella and wonder what he thinks of puppies... ;)

Niki,

I'm so sorry for the disappointing and frustrating setback. And I'm so angry at your doctor and his office! You are so right that they doctors and their staff do not take their patients more seriously sometimes. So don't stop following up on your records and follow-ups etc. Regretably it is not a big deal to the doctor's and their staff and you must advocate for yourself. So keep on top of them and in touch and don't ever apologize for being a pest. I do wish you well and hope that you get some good answers real soon.
Stay strong and focused!

All the best!
Susie

Update on me:
Just a very quick update, as I have 8 minutes before I should be getting the call for my INRatio training...

Talked to DeVille's nurse (Dustin) today. We think we've figured out the right person to contact at the Mayo (he had to call me and find out WHICH Mayo I went to), and that person is supposed to call DeVille's cell tomorrow. They are going to send the x-ray, but decided they couldn't do it over email because of HIPPA (whatever), so will either mail it or fax it. Dustin has been helpful since I called him. I have a feeling he knew nothing about it before I called. He even asked this afternoon what they were looking for. I explained that my LV lead isn't capturing and he said 'OH!' Apparently that bit of info was left out of whatever he received...

Anyway, he says he'll get back to me as soon as DeVille and the Mayo guy talk. Actually, he thinks DeVille will call me himself, but I won't hold my breath. If I haven't heard anything by Friday, I'll be trying again... *sigh*

Hang in there, Niki. I can understand why you're so frustrated! And the HIPAA laws aren't helping either! I think they've gone overboard with the HIPAA regulations when it interferes with patient care. How are they suppose to read a fax?? I hope everything goes well and you can have the surgery near home. You're in my prayers.

My luck just keeps on coming... I was set up to get training for my INRatio this afternoon. I set it up for 5:00 PM. Five came and went, no call. Around 5:40 I gave up and left to meet my aunts and uncles for dinner (we have a long standing Wed. evening dinner set up, after which I go to bookbinding class). As I was driving to dinner I remembered that the person who scheduled my training said "5 PM your time, which is 3 PM her time" (meaning the nurse who would be calling me for the training). So I thought, maybe the nurse got confused and would be calling me at 5 PM her time, which would be 7 PM my time. So I decided to skip bookbinding and hurried back home arriving at exactly 7 PM. No phone call. It's 8:40 and I haven't gotten a call at all. So not only have I not gotten my training done, but I also skipped bookbinding for no reason... Grrr! Why me???

LOL! Hopefully, he isn't like Cruella ;).

I don't think she drove a Cadillac. Hmph.

As for your additional issues, my goodness ... your luck is bound to change sooner or later ... hopefully sooner! Thoughts/prayers continuing for you....
