Hi Jay

Will have you in my prayers tomorrow morning......good luck with your surgery and please let us know, or have your girlfriend let us know, how it went.

Evelyn

Another Neeeew Yaaaawker!!!!

Where are you having surgery?

Hi Jay,
I can understand your frustration in getting postponed--the other person on the forum had actually gone to the OR and gone to sleep when they postponed hers, so at least you were hanging out in pre-op. I think the surgeon should have come and told you themself!
Prayers and good wishes going up for you tomorrow!

...And that's how he became Oscar the Grouch!

That'll do it, for sure. Sesame Street humor aside, somehow hospitals, doctors, and surgeons just don't get that it's a really big deal to calmly walk into a hospital and offer yourself up to be split down the middle. In truth, we should all have to be dragged in, kicking and screaming, and forcefully sedated just to get us settled in.

It's a very cruel and dirty trick to make someone surrender their flesh (and even a bit of their dignity) for an operation, and then turn them away afterward without finishing the job. Surely, they knew the day before that they didn't have staff or room for your surgery.

Let's hope they make it up to you with really good treatment after the OHS.

Best wishes,

Hey Oscar,
I agree, they should have called to let you know. Must have been extremely frustrating. By now, I'm sure you're already behind this all, and resting comfortably. Which hospital? Who's the surgeon? Im going to have surgery sometime in March. Have a speedy recovery. Spring is on the way.

Hopefully You are Almost Out of OR

Hopefully You are Almost Out of OR

I had my surgery canceled without notice once, and two weeks later it was postponed twice! I know how you felt. That's behind us now! Hope things are going well, and that we'll hear from you in a few days. May there be many wonderful years ahead for you. Brian

Hi all! well it's me again, Jay. I'm sure some of you who have popped in would of thought that I'd be recovering right about now from my re-scheduled surgery. Well, another change in plans unfortunately.

First I want to say thank you so much for all of the kind words, thoughts and prayers that have preluded this. It really does mean a lot to have you all be so positive. Secondly, and more to the matter at hand, as some of you know I was originally scheduled for my AV replacement this past Thur., 2/15. For those of you who dont, the brief details. Unfortunately we had a large snow storm here the day and evening before (about 2 feet). I showed up bright eyed and bushy tailed that next morning around 6:30. Got undressed and into the prep and waitiing area. Around 8:30 my nurse came in and said she had just been alerted that my surgery had been cancelled and that the surgeon was going to come down to talk with me, which he did. He mentioned how sorry he was, and that it was just a large combination of things that led to the cancellation (understaffed due to the storm, lack of beds due to the storm and emergencies,etc.). I cannot lie and say that I wasn't immedietly upset by this, to which I fully let my surgeon know. I had mentioned that I was aware that I wasn't an "emergency" case, and I was sure that their were many people on that day who may have had more of a need for surgery or a bed than myself. I also said that with that being said, I should have never have received a phone call the previous afternoon around 5 to confirm that we were all set for the following morning (we were probabaly about 12" in to the 2 feet of snow at that point). In either case it is what it is.

My surgery got rescheduled for the following Monday (yesterday). Throughtout the weekend I began to experience some intestinal issues to which I alerted my surgeon Sunday afternoon. Through discussion we decided together that under the circumstances the best course of action was to reschedule again (and I can only hope for the last time), this time for this upcoming Monday the 26th. This I was comfortable with, I just wish he could of gotten me in sooner than another week away, but again it is what it is.

I had read through all of your posts in the meantime. I have also noticed that Phyllis was kind enough to start a brief thread mentioning that my surgery was rescheduled for anyone who was interested (Thank you so much Phyllis for the thought and love). In addition someone had mentioned, and I had seen on my own that Jan this past week had her surgery rescheduled, however after actually getting put under and sent into the OR, only to awaken to NOT HAVE IT DONE. I can't begin to compare my disappointment with what you must have/be going through Jan and I'm thinking of you as I know many of us are. Best of luck!! I also know that there are many of you out there who have been through the a similair situation before and for those, thanks for the words of encouragement.......we're going to get this done :)

As I said before, and as I think all of us feel at one time or another here, all of your support, well wishes and love mean the world. We reach out to each other mostly through our keyboards because of a common bond, and yet somehow end up with a feeling of family because of that bond. Thank you again to all for continuing to check in :)

As I said, surgery is GOING to be this upcoming Monday in the AM ;). I'm in the hopes that by the end of the week or so I'll be getting sent home, and as soon as I feel up to it will stop back in to let you all know everything went great.

Thanks again to you all, and as we say "see you on the other side of the mountain"........

Jay
