Hi Ann,
Thanks for writing me. I'm still around, just had a few things going on over the last 2 weeks. The rule of thumb I use for my friends here as far as time zone is, " Your mornings are my afternoons". There is a 7 hour time zone difference between Eastern std time and Germany.
Last week I was in Maine visiting my brother and friends, didn't have my computer with me.
I am home this week, but fly back to Germany on the 12th. I'll return to Plymouth, MA on the 18th to spend the week of Thanksgiving with my parents and family.
Then, I'll fly back to Germany on Nov 27th, return to Nashville on Dec 2nd.
I'll fly back to Germany on Dec 14th and return to the states on Jan 12th.
That's as far as my schedule is made for now, but I do know that I will continue working in Europe through next year.
It's been a great year for me. Although it's hard being away from home, the experiences I have had over the year have been wonderful. My wife has come over on 3 different occations and we took some time to explore.
She will come over during the Christmas holiday period, and we are planning to spend Christmas in the Alps, either in Austria or Switzerland. It should wonderful.
3 weeks ago, my meetings were in England. So, on Friday, after working all week in Germany, I took a flight to London, stayed in the Covent Garden part of the city,, and spent the weekend touring London. I then went to the Portsmouth area of the UK for my meetings. London was great. I took a tour on the double decker bus, cruised up the Themes River, saw Big Ben, Westminster Abby, Buckingham Palace, Prince Albert Hall, the London Tower, London Bridge and took in the Theatre on Sat. night. I saw "The Producers".
Ohhh.. almost forgot.. I got to find my way around on the "Tube" or Underground... " Mind The Gap".. If you traveled on it.. you would get that! It is their way of saying watch your step as you exit the train. I took 411 pictures the first day I was there... whew......
I still worry at times about the "what-if"s" concerning my heart, health and type of care I may get overseas, but... I figure I can sit on my porch and watch the world go bye, or continue to work and enjoy the experience.
I even made Octoberfest in Munich. I told my doctor I was thinking of him, as I drank a few beers there. Each mug holds 1 liter of beer! So, I told my doc, I was following orders and only had 2. He forgot to tell me what size was acceptable for the 2 drink rule.
Atually I had 2 1/2 beers there. The beer tents were huge, each one holds between 7,000 to 10,000 people. That's alot of drunks!
My Cardiologist is German, so I also bought him an offical Octoberfest hat and gave it to him during my last ceckup. He got a kick out of it, and wore it around the office to show his staff.
I hope you are also doing well. I do try and get on daily and read the board, but the last few weeks I guess I took a brief vacation.
I figure by the middle of next year, I should be speaking much better Deutche

Hi Marsha,
I hope you get to go one day. Germany is a beautiful country, and you can get just about anywhere using the rail system. I have seen some wonderful site this year. I plan on visting Berlin and Hamburg next year.
You can get some real good fairs on flights if you book a little ahead. I have seen fares as cheap as 469.00 and a high of 1,500.00 for couch fares. First class is a whole nother story. I think the airlines really rip people off on 1st class to Germany. I can fly couch most of the time for 769.00, but a 1st class ticket costs 6,800.00 on Northwest. YIKES.... Those fares are from Nashville to Frankfurt, DE.
Now .. as for stowing away in my luggage....perhaps I can install some kind of
German "over-engineered" peddle system inside so you can wheel the luggage from inside, and I wont have to carry you!

ps... I must admit German "over-engineering" is a marvel to observe & study. If I ever build another house, I am going to have German windows and doors shipped over to me.

Travel my share around the states. International travels will have to wait for now. Too much going on with life in general. We do plan on an extensive visit to Europe for a milestone birthday. Won't been for awhile though. In the meantime...I will live vicariously though yourself and my hubby. He gets to go to all the good places

My Hubby flew his last 5 years with Delta to Europe..His favorite was Germany.. Loved, Munich, the people were so friendly.Austrains?(sp?) He loved the food....funny, we ended up retiring in a Bavarian Village in North Ga. he can still have his German food. alone with my Southern cooking. ..Have to ask, don't you like getting back home ..with some good-old Southern cooking? ....I always did..when traveling abroad..just wanted those black=eyed peas and cornbread. I love Germany. Everything is so clean and orderly. When my husband was stationed in England we spent 3 weeks in Bavaria along with some other short trips. Their construction sites are even neat and clean. We all just love Germany. The alps and Bavaria are so wonderful at Christmas time. The clear lights and evergreen garland not to mention the Christmas Markets. Ahh, the good memories.

Thanks, Rob, for checking in. I knew when you did, you would be relating some wonderful things about your travels. It sounds like you are living large every minute and enjoying it, and that's what life is about. I enjoyed every word you wrote. We wait for your posts because you have such an interesting way of telling us - like we are there.

During the mid-sixties GM sent me to Germany for a while.
We lived in a town called Augsburg which is about 40mi from Munich.
Traveled all thru the alps and Bavaria, it was absolutely beautiful. Of course the beer wasn't bad either !!
And being of some German descent made it all special for me.

Bonnie, yes is is good to come home to some good home cooking. Not that the German food isn't good mind you, in fact... the food where I am working is excellent. But still.. thee is nothing like coming home and enjoying a good home cooked meal. Bonnie.. Is there any good Bavarian beer in that part of North, GA?
Rich, you got it... the German beers are fantastic! I am getting spoiled over there. My favorites are the weisen / wheat beers, and especally the weisen dunkle beer. btw... I always thought that beer was warm in Europe, Nope!They do serve chilled beer there, it is not warm. But , in England they did serve some non-chilled brew.
While in Bovaria in Munich we did take a day trip to the Alps and King Ludwigs castles in Fussen, Newschwanstien (sp) Castle... It's the castle Disney modeled his them parks after.
Swiss mom.. We are planning to visit the Christmas Markets in Siegburg, and in Nuremburg when I return in Dec. I hear they are wonderful. The one in Siegburg, which is where I stay, is supposed to be a very famous tradional style Christmas market, and Nuremburg is also very large, well known and highlited in many of the guides.
Gina, if you end up going over while I am still there, let me know, perhaps my wife and I could end up enjoying a wonderful day with you and your hubby. Ya never know...
Today is packing day.. It amazes me hoe many things I can fit in my suitcase. I also have to take my Protime home testing unit with me on these long trips. I carry it on in my computer backpack. They never once questioned it.
I'll try and send some more pictures after I size a few down to post. In December I will see if I can capture some of the Christmas spirit there and share the pics with everyone.
