Karlynn

I had to post this for Phyllis, thinking of the photo she posted of her new grandson with his daddy.

I told my son that I derive some sick sort of satisfaction from this photo. Not because our little girl is obviously unhappy, but because I know as sure as the earth turns on it's axis, that when she's about 14 he'll see this very same expression on her face. And he won't find it nearly at cute!:D

The aftermath

The aftermath

They eventually wear themselves out.

Oh, the joys of new parenthood, Karlynn! Dick and I laugh because our daughter and son-in-law claim that Harry never cries- they don't let him! Just keep reassuring them that life will get better (in about 21 years). Harry is now managing 6 hours some nights, but then there are the days when I call in the morning to hear that he was up every hour on the hour. His favorite place to sleep is on Mom or Dad's chest. Funny, we use to have one book- Dr. Spock- now they have the whole internet to take their questions and fears to! What's great for us grandparents is that we can listen, counsel and bolster their confidence, but then we can turn it off and sleep all night!:D

Total Exhaustion

Total Exhaustion

This is one of the good moments- so tired after a walk that he fell asleep before my daughter could even get his jacket off.

My Dr. Spock copy is dog-eared and food-stained. It got quite a workout!

Amen to your last sentence!!

He's getting so big!!!!!! What a cutie and look at that white/blonde hair!

My secret to getting Kameron asleep when he was that age. turn on the vaccumcleaner.:D We would let it run next to his crib..sitting upright.:p Never took more than 5 minutes and he was out like a light.:D I have also heard..that putting them in thier carrrier on top of the dryer works too. Just don't walk away and leave them.:p Bonnie

He always looks so much bigger in pictures than he does when I see him in person, but he is 12 1/2 lbs now and 75percentile. Harry's favorite position to sleep (other than on some one's chest) is on his stomach and that's a big no, no now because of SIDs. Remember when we were told never to put them on their backs? My daughter does put him on his stomach during the day when can she can watch him constantly and is desperate. She read about the dryer but hasn't tried that one yet Bonnie. Yes, Karlynn he has platinum blond hair and blue eyes. His father had hair like that until he was 5 and then it turned brown. They both have brown eyes too so we suspect those blue peepers will turn brown eventually too. Anything else you want to know about Harry??? I could go on forever!:eek:

Baby Tricks;

Baby Tricks;

I wanted to mention one thing that will seem so obvious-but I know young parents who have never tried it: singing to your baby. When our grandaughter was here I sang to her all the time, and she loved it. Babies aren't going to criticize your voice.

Many of you may remember the movie "As good as it gets" with Jack Nicholson, Helen Hunt and others I can't remember. The Jack Nicholoson character was a favorite of this cute little dog. The dog owner felt bad that his little dog went to the Nicholson character instead of him. And finally, the Nicholson character (sorry I don't remember his name) revealed that he always carried some bacon in a plastic bag in his pocket.

Well, little Ellie often held out her hand to have her grandpa hold her-pretty amazing, thought the women of the house. But I had a secret-I would sing softly to her everywhere we went, in the house or outside. I sang old favorites from church, and I made up songs where Ellie's name was sung over and over. You can't give them bacon, but they love to hear you sing.

My son's hair was white blonde until he was about 4, then it turned a gold blonde. I still have the clippings from his first haircut and it is so white. Avery's Mommy, Lauren, had red curlie hair that then turned blonde. So we are all stumped wondering just what Avery's hair is going to do. My daughter was born with dark hair and lost it about a month later. So far, it looks like Avery's is staying put.

Dennis, my Dad always sang to my kids. Which was funny because he never sang in church or anywhere else. His song for my daughter was "In dreams I kiss your hand madame, your dainty finger tips." And this chubby little toddler would offer her chubby little hand for Grandpa to gently kiss her finger tips. One day I said "Shelby you are Mommy's little princess." and she stubbornly replied "NO! Gampa's pinchess!" And she always was. Keep up the good work Grandpa!

Dennis my daughter-in-law always sang to my granddaughters when they were infants and they loved it. My daughter said that her husband has been singing an Irish lullaby to Harry and he laughs and laughs (waiting to get a video of that one!), and of course my daughter always sings "I'm just wild about Harry" to him. She bought him a CD that he loves and keeps him from crying in the car. We think he's a reall Rennaisance Man because he loves all the old ballads and is fascinated by art on the walls and even a trip to the museum last week.
