As suggested by Al Capshaw I decided to start this thread. A quick overview is I have a leaking bicuspid aortic valve that the surgeon I saw (Dr Goldman) at Lankenau hospital wants to repair. I have not spoken to him since his suggestion but will go back to him soon with questions of his success rate and # of surgeries performed among others Im coming up with daily thanks to VR.com! Im wandering if anyone knows of a BAV specialist in or around the Philadelphia area. Ive been told Dr Bavaria at University of Penn would be 1st choice then Dr Goldman at Lankenau. Any other suggestions from anyone here would be appreciated.

Dr Bavaria

Dr Bavaria

Dr Bavaria replaced my aortic valve and most of my ascending aorta last July. I believe he did a great job and I can highly recommend him (I had a stroke waking up but I really don't think that was his fault). I jokingly refer to him as the Johnny Rock Star of heart surgeons. When they have heart surgeon conventions, he's usually one of the up front experts. He's one of the best in the country.

Thanks Christine, Id appreciate that, and Jax glad to hear good words about Bavaria. Im looking forward to any answers you get Christine about surgeons. Please keep me informed.

Tony,

You will most likely be interested in another post in this forum on a paper on AVR for BAV patients.

You should be able to find considerable discussion of BAV by doing a SEARCH for "BAV" on this Forum (click on Search on the Blue Line near the top of the page).

Dr Bavaria repaired my mitral valve in MAy of this year. I heard like you that he was the best so it made my decision a lot easier. He has a great staff which I thought was very helpful when I called the office with my many questions. They always took the time to answer the questions that I had before and after surgery. I would highly recommend him,

Good luck

I was just talking to a friend of mine who is one of the top ct surgeons in the philly area, does transplants, valves cbags ect.
I asked him about goldman and he said if HE needed a valve repair that's who he would go to, my friend says he does valve replacements, but if anyone needs a repair he send them to Goldman because his is really good,
Tony if you want more details, about who my friend is ect pm me I just don't want to put our private conversatio public :) Lyn
