My motivations and/or interest must be running low because I have yet to get to a cruise night in the greater Elgin area this year ... believe my current job and health statuses have something to do with the low interest. Course, I have yet to even wash the older 4 MCs [I've cleaned up the '87 MC LS a couple of times ... since it is the daily driver]. I was going to wash the older 4 MCs this weekend (July 29 and 30th), but the excessive heat kinda put a damper on those plans. Course, this gave me the opportunity to be at my church (Faith COB, Batavia IL) for it's closing Sunday. The long-range forecast is for sun and 80s next weekend (Aug 5 and 6), so I'll wash 'em up next weekend.
In the meantime, for those of you in IL, IN, WI, MI, IA, etc., here are a few ideas for gatherings. Yeah, I know I've missed some this year already ... and will miss more that are already planned ... but just wondering if anyone is interested in something of the below.....
RACEWAY WOODS
This is a forest preserve just north of me in Carpentersville IL. I have yet to go, but am thinking about it. Why? Because, in the 1960s, this was the site of a 12-turn, 3.27 mile road course called Meadowdale International Raceway. While nature has reclaimed some spots, you can still pretty much walk a complete lap. Check out: http://www.meadowdaleraceway.homestead.com/
"CARS"
Yes, I've seen this movie, but since it features a '76/'77 MC as one of the announcers and has a great running commentary on RT 66's "demise" after interstates (particularly I-40) were built [along with some great scenery/scenes], I'd love to see it again. I think it'd be cool to have a bunch of "car enthusiasts" go to this movie as a group.....
VOLO AUTO MUSEUM
This is another possibility ... located in Volo IL, about 45 minutes NW of me. Featured cars include KITT, The General Lee, Herbie ... and a host of other classic muscle cars. Check out: http://www.volocars.com
WEEKEND CRUISE
I mentioned this last year, and even though it didn't happen, thought I'd mention it again ... just in case. The "pathway" I planned out for last year was RT 20 W ... RT 52 S ... I-80 E ... RT 84 N (back to RT 20). Could easily be persuaded to alter that just a bit ... and maybe go along RT 66 instead for a while.....
