Today I celebrate one year after my double bipass and mitral valve replacement!
MacNeal Hospital, James Tuchek, surgeon. I recovered without help from family
or friends, on my own. No contact with family after surgery.
I feel lucky and fortunate to be alive and well. No heart problems.
(I am at risk for cancer for the next year though.)

Congratulations. May you have many more anniversaries. Remember, we are all at risk for cancer all the time, so don't worry about risk, manage it and then forgetaboutit...live life...:)

I went back to the ICU and met with the nurse who helped me on my first day there.
She remembered me and was glad I came. Hugged me.

I had my wife and kids but no other help from family or friends. When you go through something like this you actually realize who your family and friends are. The people that didn't care are now out of my life.
