Been waiting a couple of years and at yesterdays appt with the cardio Dr. he made an appt for me to see a surgeon. Today they called and now scheduled an angiogram for Monday. Things are moving faster that I had expected. This board sure has helped. Still pretty much asymptomatic but I know it is inevitable. I will be posting as things proceed.

Your situation sounds similar to mine. I am just behind you in age and the symptoms (those that I can really feel) began to get more serious in the past year. Anyway, things do move fast when they start to move, don't they? Every time I start to talk myself out of surgery, I come back to what those specialists are seeing in the test results and the prognosis they give if I wait too long despite the comparative lack of symptoms. Why pay for expert advice and then ignore it? I have had the echos, the angios, the CT, and the face to face with the surgeon. Anyway, My date is set for early June. I am retired too. Not ready to hang it up yet either. ;-) Wish you well. Feel free to share or not your experience. I am not a real social person on forums, so it has taken awhile to work up the nerve to post here.

keep in mind that this is all temporary and that in a short time you'll be looking back in it wondering what all the fuss was about.

being asymptomatic is a good thing for recovery in my view

Just got back from meeting the surgeon . Dr Kirshner at Rochester General. He has done thousands of these over the last 35 years. Very impressed. What got scary was they might do the surgery the day after the angiogram which is on Monday. Wow! I didn't plan on that. Anyway its got to be done , might as well be sooner than later. I'll keep you posted.

I wish you all the best. The good thing is that you will feel much better in a few weeks time - you might be amazed how much the defective valve has slowed you down.

Felt great until a month ago, Developed a cough and headaches. Now feeling very weak. Everything is coming fast. I think it is better that way. Let,s get this thing over.

Nothing scary about the surgery following the angiogram by a day. I had the same thing 5 weeks ago. The surgery itself is a breeze cos after the first couple of minutes you're away with the fairies. Was my first time too. Good luck Quarry. The old timers on here know best and their advice is invaluable. See you on the other side :} Judy PS..You're funny Pellicle :}
