Hello everyone - thanks for this wonderful board!
My husband (otherwise healthy 38 year old prior to surgery) had bicuspid valve replacement with an on-x valve and ascending aneurysm repair on 7/27/17. The surgery itself went well but he had a tough go at recovery. His kidneys failed day 2 post-op and both lungs collapse. We stayed in the hospital 1 day shy of 3 weeks. He had moderate to large pericardial effusion and pleural effusion. The kidneys came to finally some days of being on dialysis. The fluid in the heart's sac and lung went down but not gone completely before he was discharged. All was looking positive however he has been having some excruciating pain in the back of the right leg all the way down to his big toe. This started a few days before being discharged. The pain is so severe, he needs to walk with a cane. The pain is described to be like a shooting, sharp pain, now mainly in the big toe and bottom of foot. He is not able to move around much and if anything touches or grazes the right toe/foot, it hurts extremely. His cardiologist is not sure what this could be. His internist checked bloodwork, and xray of his back and all look normal. Today, 5 weeks post-op, it appears that his right ankle is swelling up a bit. Has anyone else experienced this or does anyone have any insight as to what this could be? Thanks so much for your time!
