Here's a "Life Hack" to speed up and automate reporting your INR to Alere.

After having received my new Coaguchek XS from Alere, I immediately noticed that they expect me to call their "Toll Free" line and recall/enter several strings of numbers. I dislike paper, and I don't want to waste my time trying to remember the string of numbers such as my pin and patient id. I realized I could program a contact into my cell phone to remember the string of numbers and even the timing of when the tones are sent.

You would obviously need to take out my info and add your own, but my string saved as the contact phone number looks like this (pin/id numbers are fictional):

1-877-900-2624,,,,,,,,01011982,,6853742#,,7725#,,,1

Obviously I saved the name as "Alere".

This way, it's hands and brain free after I hit dial until it hits the part where I report my actual INR.

The commas are pauses in android phones, so it waits for the right time to send the tones. Your phone may need a "P" or some other character, but a quick google can find out what character is needed for pause for your phone.

Cheers! :D

I called when I first got my meter. What a hassle! Now, I email my results, it's quick and it works just fine. I am still bugged that my pcp has me contacting the company with my INR results. I won't get a shipment of strips if I don't let them know my results each week. For yrs, I tested and dosed myself. Only called the coumadin nurse if it was really out of range. But, since my endocarditis and brain bleed, I guess they are covering their asses, and now I have to email my results to get supplies. Pooey!

With most cell phones you don't - but it doesn't hurt the process either. Some phones do require the 1, such as a magic jack or other VOIP phones. If I store a number in my phone, I usually try to get the full prefix including the 1 just because I'm anal like that.

It's akin to typing www. in the address bar... you don't need to anymore, but it doesn't hurt you. Well, there might be some cases where it technically could slow you down kinda, but that's beyond the scope of this post.

Glad you posted in this thread! I need to call in my INR tonight.

I know I got instructions on how to email my results, but have misplaced/forgotten them. Could you please let us know the format required? Thanks..

While waiting for a reply, I called Alere's customer service instead. I asked for email instructions, but she provided me a web page instead. It's at https://www.mycoagresults.com and after entering patient ID and pin you can report new results, as well as view a graph of previous results. Chrome does not work "Server error: access forbidden", but Internet Explorer does.

(I was actually using a different/older phone system, where I had a self chosen ID and no pin, while here I have to enter a new 7 digit ID and pin. I am not sure which I prefer... Email would still have been simpler, just open and edit a previous email with new INR and send again, so I am still hoping for an answer to my question...)

specify the secure designation: https://www.mycoagresults.com/ instead of http://www.mycoagresults.com/

see the difference there with the s?

I find it scary that the person who administers that website didn't just use a redirect or something, but instead they lead users to believe something is broken by allowing a 403 to persist on the index of the domain for regular http:80. Funny stuff right there.

I don't know anything about email reporting. Sorry.

Thanks for figuring that out. Somehow IE worked yesterday without specifying the secure site, but not Chrome nor Firefox. This morning it no longer works in IE either. You are right, pretty lame, and so easy to fix by the admins.
So the correct link is https://www.mycoagresults.com/ (your colored 's' prevents yours from being an actual link :))
