Ix-nay on the airs-stay.
That was a tongue-in-cheek standard, supposedly keyed to MI (heart attack) patients. It was concocted for a recent movie starring Jack Nicholson. I believe it was called, "Something Has to Give."
I was released on day three, and they said, "You may resume sexual intercourse." Some folks receive the addenedum, "with a known sexual partner," as there may be undue excitement with a new partner, especially if bypasses and other heart issues are involved.
Basically, the condition of the sternum, and possible irritation of early pericarditis are the overriding concerns for those with few side issues. Having lingering heart problems besides the valve replacement can indicate more caution.
Generally, "married sex" is considered benign, as long as it doesn't involve trapeze artistry or more than eight pounds of leather and chains.
To quote the Scarecrow of Oz, "O, joy! O, rapture!"

No stairs? Well, heck but I wanted to cover all the bases so I climbed. Besides, he lives on the second floor and I had to get there, didn't I?
Undue excitement - bypass surgery? That's me. It's a wonder I am here to tell the story (sort of tell it, at least).

Hey, Cutie. You and I are about the same number of weeks post-op.
Ok, I just have to add my two cents. Dr. McGiffin said I could have sex as soon as I went home...they even gave me a list of instructions that said to lie on your back or side...LOL! As if we newlyweds need any instruction!
Go for it! You'll be glad you did. I didn't wait. I needed the intimacy. Had sex the 2nd night home (this may be too much information)..exactly 8 days after my aortic valve homograft ;)

TMI? I don't think so.
We have had much fun with this thread, but scattered amongst the fun are great posts with information that I am sure many have questions about. This is a first in VR about sex. We have never broached the subject with any seriousness and depth but looking back at all the responses, it is certainly on the minds of so many members; therefore it should be discussed and information swapped as long as we keep it more or less clean. After all, it is part of our over-all health. We have been both tactful and trashy in this thread (include me in the trashy part-giggle) but all in all, I think that everyone has gained knowledge we couldn't get elsewhere. Right?

I agree that this has been a kind of fun thing. It is a part of life and should be discussed in a "clean" way. The surgery itself is so traumatic that this is something that should take your mind off of it for a while. :D

Heeheeheeehee.....
My wife "discovered" this thread this afternoon while she was checking her email....
"Why don't you ever tell me about any of this stuff?" she asks...
I didn't know I was supposed to keep her THAT informed.
Anyways, she asked when it was that we first started ummm... well.... you know...
And we decided it was about the time I started rehab which would have been almost a month after I got home, 3 months post-op.
I gotta say though, the honeymoon we had a few month after that was a VERY cool experience on all kinds of levels.
I'm still amazed that I had no trouble at all pushing her in her chair (she has CP and uses a walker most times, but we had her wheelchair for sightseeing) up and down steep hills a few times a day while we were in Niagara Falls, Ont...
You don't need to know about the "other stuff..." ;)

Sounds like your hormones were doing the pushing for you.
There is something about a honeymoon-type experience that lets us fly without limits on ethereal, shining wings woven from pure endorphins.

Karlynn,
I can assure you that I DID NOT think about sex AT ALL during the entire 5 days I was in the hospital.
I did, actually telling my wife I was horney was my way of telling her I was going to be OK. This was still in the ICU. She laughed and said she knew I would be fine.....then she told my mom what I said. And I got the Benjamin James.....from my mom. What can you say about moms, I'll always be her baby.
I also had the cute nurse and schwing was in my vocabulary..........but then again, as Karlynn said, I am a guy and we are all mostly alike.

Is this the longest thread ever? Boy she sure knew how to push some buttons or whatever. I really don't think we discussed sex before I went home with the Dr. I know that I didn't think about it much since I felt so lousy. Men are different I guess cause it is a man thing. This is not to say that women don't think the same way but it is not the cure for everything. Have a nice weekend everyone. Have our 6 yrs. old identicals overnight tonight. Pick them up after work and go get some movies. We watch movies in Grandma's room and eat junk food. It is really fun. Their older sister has her 8th grade graduation party tonight and my daughter has to chaperone. Should be interesting, a lot of hormones at that age.(Sex again) ;)

There is only 4 seconds to it. You could let it play one time then click play again, but to save you the hassle he says, "Bye bye goofy woman, I've enjoyed throwing you to the ground repeatedly."

On the other hand...huh...at least that would indicate some activity recently........

well after I read the following, I decided not to be pregnant:
Women of a certain age don't have babies because they would put them down and forget where they left them. :D :p
Granbonny
May 17th, 2004, 03:18 PM
And I was going to ask you to give the baby to me.. :D Cause I cannot have anymore, either. :p :p :p :p Reminds me of when I left my age 2 year old son with hubby in store in Atlanta. Snowing, ect. I said watch him..He said O.K. I went next door and coming back, who did I see, my age 2 year old son coming out revolving door.  I walked up to hubby and said, where is Wes..He turns and says..He was here a few minutes ago.   A 2 year old can be in the next state in 1 minute if not watching them. That's a MAN for you...Bonnie

Mr Cort.......Although you are post #300, remember that we are counting the replies, so the first post doesn't count.
I remember when this thread was around 160 posts I wondered if it would make 200.....well, thanks to Ann getting her 'groove' back and going night-tripping for four days with her 'knight in shining armour' we've managed to keep it alive to 300.
The three letter word is a pretty big subject so I think it might go a bit further...anyway Cort, hang in there and one of these days I'll join you on one of your road-trips and help you to understand these cup sizes and a few other things as well.........in the meantime maybe you should ask Ann for any urgent advice you might need...
Cheers,

NC-Cutie, the best way to cure fear is to jump right in and don't look back! What's the worst thing that can happen? Your man remained by your side through one of the most difficult times of your life ... he saw you at your low point, no doubt.

Sex after surgery.... sheesh.... it was certainly better than sex BEFORE surgery!! Imagine that! You probably should have been frightened then, not now! You are all fixed up and ready to go... so to speak.
I read about me in your post, Nancy... nice to see you there. I am the 5 valve girl, am 48 years old and single. The sound of the valve is probably the most intimidating thing (I hear two)... but it is a GOOD thing. You only get to complain if you DONT hear it.
My secret?? MUSIC! And not necessarily quiet, soft music. Play it as loud as you need to, and have a glass of wine. You are going to be amazed at how much better you feel, uh.. ahem.. after the physical activity. AND it is good for you! Thank goodness you have a sig. other of a 2 year history, so he will be understanding, I'm sure. You are going to be so relieved, I'm sure you will look back someday and smile at your apprehension!
You will be just fine.
