This just keeps creeping back and creeping back, earlier and earlier every week. Are all the Throw-Downers in a big hurry to start the weekend binges? :o:p:eek:

Soon we'll have the Friday Throw Down on Monday!

Well, I guess it is a good thing we weighed in yesterday.

Again, Cindy extends her lead. I lost nothing, but gained nothing. She lost .8 pounds. Who knows what tomorrow brings? ;)

LOL!

I'm taking Cindy tomorrow to Knoxville to meet up with Jessica (her daughter); she's going on to Georgia with her to spend time with the grandkids. I'm returning home to get some other things done and have some alone time.

Anyway, I didn't want to forget to post the thread so, I went ahead and got-r-done. ;)

So the ortho said they would schedule my knee surgery but first my cardio needed to listen to my heart. So I called the cardio and the earliest appointment he can give me is September 12, and he wants to do a full-fledged echo then. Jeesh! So it could be late September before the arthroscopic surgery could be scheduled. I'm tempted to just bag the whole thing and learn to live with a torn meniscus.

Pass Superbob some comfort food! Cobbler, Cooker -- still got any of those? Peach, cherry, blackberry, even fig?

Basically it's a group of vr.com members who are supporting each others' weight loss efforts. For those who want to, we usually post our weight loss or weight struggle weekly, usually Fridays.

All are welcome!

With our one-year anniversary coming up, maybe our intrepid simian leader would like to do a retrospective, in the process explaining what we are all about (if there is a rational explanation). :D

Well, I'm still fighting the battle of vacation weight. I lost 1 this week, but I'm still 4 up from goal. Ick. Yes, we know, this is a lifestyle, not a diet.

Mind if I butt in, all?

I am proud to say that I lost 5.4 pounds this past week! I allowed 20 pounds to creep back on me like the cheesecake that is now part of the junk in my trunk. Well, this past year was a bit stressful.... My goal is to get back down to 145 pounds. That would make the cardio happy, I'm sure!

Good luck to all us "losers"! :D

Since I only lost another .5 which totals to an amazing.....3.5 pounds in
a 3 month time period. I believe its time for more extreme measures;
we have a ref , and an overseer, and I think we even have a couple comedians for comic relief, but I feel I (or We?) need a strict taskmaster,
maybe Cooker would like to redefine his role or hire a 'gangster ' type to
put the fear of flabb in us. Or maybe we could call this the extreme program
and not all need to be involved , only those who want to lose 15 lbs by mid Sept--like ME:D
Good luck to all--Dina

I'm down .3 this week. That's the way it's been going all year, down a fraction of a lb several weeks, then BANG! up a couple lbs, then fight for another month to get ride of that, lather, rinse, repeat...

Congratulations to everyone who has managed to lose this week. And Superbob, don't worry. You're just hanging back for a big loss for the anniversary. ;)

As for me, it seems the "Baby Wyland Exercise and Diet Plan" is working! I lost .7 lbs this week. That's two weeks in a row of losing! I didn't think it was going to happen, with as munchy as I was yesterday (kept snacking on cheetoes and chips). But keeping up with a 14 month old can sure work up an appetite! ;)

Off to see what he's up to now! His parents are coming today and they will be taking him home on Monday. I'll be sad to see him go. :(

Down a pound. But I have my Brother Diet going on. My mentally disabled brother has been here for a week and a half. I love having him here, but he is high maintenance due to his OCD. So I think the weight loss is stress - cuz I haven't had time to work out!!!!

Congrats to all losers - whether you've lost, gained or stayed the same - because you're sticking with it!

My report is short again this week.

I lost nothing; I gained nothing. That's OK.

Cindy lost .8 and is inching ahead of me. However, this morning my scale weighed me below 180 for the first time, so maybe I'll lose pretty good come Tuesday at WW.

Congrats to all of the losers. Wow, Debbie 5.4 lbs.; that's terrific!

From what I hear, Mr. and Mrs. Simian like caves; maybe they will have walked off that Mexican meal we shared by the time Cooker reports back in.

That is exactly what my sis-in-law says; when you get married you gain,
when you get pregnant you gain more, and when the child becomes a toddler
--you finally lose ,in response to all the chasing and running around.
And atleast you are getting in some practice.....as you know , I wouldnt
mind one for myself:)
Glad to hear you are losing !

Mary- sorry about your gain, I should have sent you some positive thought
like you did for me last week.:o

I have had a mixed week...days of feeling like a big fat balloon and then others like today when I am almost feeling slim (well my tummy anyway). I have had porridge for breaky most days this week and it seems to be helping. I am keeping away from the sweet snacks except that today I am baking choccy cookies for the boys and I always have to test a bit of the mixture...lol...

Lots of water and some exercise is my plan for next week...our winter seems to be moving on and making way for milder days HOORAY!

Well done to all our losers this week...

I think we will have to take our throw-down into a record breaking 2nd year so that we can continue on our healthy journeys as some of us are not quite at our goals yet!

Superbob doesn't make a very credible drill sargeant because he is forever wandering off base and eating too much rich civilian chow. :p

However, he will make the sacrifice for you. When you have pies, cakes, cobblers, scones, cookies, fudge brownies, scones, chocolates, and other yummy confections that are tempting you, just summon Superbob and he will swoop in and take those goodies away and see that every last morsel is taken care of. :p:p

Yes we are coming up on our one year anniversary ... I should have sat down to this before getting on the scales to check my post vacation weight ... It is such a shock that I can not post it, my fingers just won't hit the keys ...

The ThrowDown: A group of people supporting each other in weight loss and overall quest for better health.

Membership requirements: The desire to lose weight, improve health, support others and be supported.

Rules: be nice.

We have been on vacation, I guess you figured that out by my "gone fishin" avatar ... I can only say that I ate my way through SC, NC, VA, KY, TN, AL and GA ... Breakfast biscuits ... candy bars ... hamburgers ... milkshakes (at least two per day Hardee's hand scooped) ... The healthiest meal was with Wise and Cindy and they are a "great influence"

As far as a hard line taskmaster .... someone needs to step in and kick my butt ... ;)

I will start today as a new day and do my best ...afterall ...that is what the ThrowDown is all about.:)

I know I will miss some but if I shoot for a morning and evening walk I might make both but will at least make one, I hope.....How the heck ca one little Chimp gain so much in such a short time:mad: ... somebody got a smoke?

I have been in closed door meetings with The Ref and she has suggested that we change the name so that it designates which year we are in (Is this thing going on forever?) ... She has suggested "Cooker's 2nd Annual Thursday Weigh-in/ThrowDown " ... this indicates the second year and changes Friday to Thursday to clear up any confusion since we start the thread on Thursday for the Australian members (gday mate:p) ... Let me be perfectly clear about the naming of the thread .... I DO NOT care what we call it ... I just am happy that it appears that we will continue ... If you have a suggestion let's hear it ... Of course we will entertain suggestions form anyone but ThrowDown member suggestions will get more consideration ... If we do not have any input:rolleyes: by the 29th we will go with The Ref's suggestion.

"2nd Annual" does sound ominously like it will become something like the Kentucky Derby or the Olympics or maybe the Super Bowl with its Roman numerals -- just go on forever. Maybe that's intimidating to some, or inspiring to others. Don't really care myself. Just my thought, for what it's worth (not very much).

LOL...when I read "2nd annual" I think, once-a-year. Now if we only have to weigh once in the coming year, well certainly we can generate a loss.:p

Joking aside, it may be because of the weirdness of my brain, but if I were new I would mistake 2nd annual as a meaning different than intended.

Does this mean that I'm voting or really care what the title is? Not at all. Just a friendly observation is all. :)

I got this email from my grandfather this morning... Thought you'd all like to read it:

Q: I've heard that cardiovascular exercise can prolong life; is this true?
A: Your heart is only good for so many beats, and that's it... don't waste them on exercise. Everything wears out eventually. Speeding up your heart will not make you live longer; that's like saying you can extend the life of your car by driving it faster. Want to live longer? Take a nap.

Q: Should I reduce my alcohol intake?
A: No, not at all. Wine is made from fruit. Brandy is distilled wine, that means they take the water out of the fruity bit so you get even more of the goodness that way. Beer is also made out of grain. Bottoms up!

Q: How can I calculate my body/fat ratio?
A: Well, if you have a body and you have fat, your ratio is one to one. If you have two bodies, your ratio is two to one, etc.

Q: What are some of the advantages of participating in a regular exercise program?
A: Can't think of a single one, sorry. My philosophy is: No Pain...Good!

Q: Aren't fried foods bad for you?
A: YOU'RE NOT LISTENING!!! .... Foods are fried these days in vegetable oil. In fact, they're permeated in
it. How could getting more vegetables be bad for you?

Q: Will sit-ups help prevent me from getting a little soft around the middle?
A: Definitely not! When you exercise a muscle, it gets bigger. You should only be doing sit-ups if you want a bigger stomach.

Q: Is chocolate bad for me?
A: Are you crazy? HELLO Cocoa beans! Another vegetable!!! It's the best feel-good food around!

Q: Is swimming good for your figure?
A: If swimming is good for your figure, explain whales to me.

Q: Is getting in-shape important for my lifestyle?
A: Hey! 'Round' is a shape!

Well, I hope this has cleared up any misconceptions you may have had about food and diets.

And remember:

'Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Chardonnay in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming 'WOO HOO, What a ride'

AND.....

For those of you who watch what you eat, here's the final word on nutrition and health. It's a relief to know the truth after all those conflicting nutritional studies.

1. The Japanese eat very little fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

2. The Mexicans eat a lot of fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

3. The Chinese drink very little red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

4. The Italians drink a lot of red wine and suffer fewer
heart attacks than Americans.

5. The Germans drink a lot of beers and eat lots of sausages and fats and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

CONCLUSION
Eat and drink what you like. Speaking English is apparently what kills you.

Nothing like listening to Desiree, DeeDee, and "Miss Cat" dish while frying up eggs and sausage. Don't know about the caloric content of all this, but it was breakfast and lunch combined, after all. :)

Doing the unexpected is good for the soul every now and then. You deserved to throw a little caution to the wind. You've had a lot of responsibility calling lately. I will have a good result to post this week. Cindy didn't end up weighing in this week; she returns from Georgia tomorrow. I probably pulled ahead of her in total loss, but I can't prove it. :( However, I don't mind if she's ahead; it does give an incentive to continue. However, honestly I've had a very easy time staying on track since we started WW. Mental readiness is most of the reason for starting and staying on track.

Superbob prefers grits as a breakfast item just with butter, though there is a great restaurant hereabouts that cooks "catfish matrimony," Nawlins' style, using lots of grits to good advantage.

Superbob don't require no fancy fixings with his grits. Grits is grits. :D Hold the cheese for sure. But here is a website with some Southern variations:

(Cooker's "Katy bar the door" version sounds like something that rhymes with grits might be in play.) :p

superbob prefers grits as a breakfast item just with butter, though there is a great restaurant hereabouts that cooks "catfish matrimony," nawlins' style, using lots of grits to good advantage.

Superbob don't require no fancy fixings with his grits. Grits is grits. :d hold the cheese for sure. But here is a website with some southern variations:

http://www.grits.com/

(cooker's "katy bar the door" version sounds like something that rhymes with grits might be in play.) :p

LOL LOL LOL :D

Let me see if I understand that last post . . . grits and sex are beyond comparison?

I prefer avocados and sex myself, but to each his/her own!:p

HAHAHA?.sounds like a guacamole machine to me:rolleyes:;):p

Oh La La!!!:p

Maybe I should explain. :o

I've had avocado and wine in the same sitting. Otherwise, a very mild experience.

I thought it had something to do with anticipation over Cindy's return!;):)

I am anticipating her return, yes. I can't connect the incidents though. Maybe Freud would though. In order to really celebrate her return, I'd have to have the wine afterward. Right?

That sounds reasonable, yes!

You know...its great that the two of you diet as a couple, making it almost competitive puts some fun into it, and it seems to work.
My husband and I are the opposite. He never gains a pound and eats
everything that I want to eat:mad: I am being funny here , but there is
some seriousness to it too. Sometimes I don't want to cook the type of
meal he likes or he brings temptations in the house- like ice cream!!:D
It is so much better when you have common goals.
I just wanted to compliment your strategy and success as a couple.
Dina:)

Make him bring the Breyer's no-sugar ice cream in, or the Edy's no-sugar, Dina. DEE-lish! (Wise will confirm that; don't listen to The Chimp. :D

Thanks Dina. This is the only way it works for us. Cindy has dieted before without me and she's had limited success. When we get together with a common goal, and common eating plan, it works....finally...again. Been here, done this before. We refuse to look back again.

I do get to eat more than Cindy because I weigh more than her. This is sometimes a sore spot for her, so I have to zip my lip if I have a "treat." I do try to be kind about, but sometimes I slip. ;)

This is a great spin on the ThrowDown thread....partnering.... I believe that the Throwdown has been a big help and fun but when Sherry and I got on WW together we had more success....we also seem to get off track together too.....slow and steady, slow and steady is the way to go.....We both have been back on plan since vacation and things are looking down:D
