I will be lucky..if I haven't gained .....Just not getting any exercise..My fault.. for not making myself go and walk in the cold...Today, nothing due to snow. Afraid I would slip...same thing tomorrow, when what snow we have..left-over ..refreezes again..I did take the broom and clear off our wooden steps..but then ..I am leery of other spots..Suppose to snow again tomorrow night/Sat. and be really cold..this weekend.. Thinking we would be in the house for a few days..due to last night;s snow..I bought Hubby..a fresh peach/praline pie....I had 2 slices last night. ..Maybe he will finish it off..:p ......Oh, well. maybe Spring is not too far off.:) before I re-gain my little 8 lb loss. Bonnie

Bonnie,
Being snowed in definitely increases the appetite. :D Don't worry: as you know, we don't get all that much snow around the Southland. (Of course we in the mountains may get a little more than the lowlanders. :p )
I got my exercise today shoveling the deck, back and front stairs, and driveway. I know, I took my time and did it gradually. We had about 5 inches here and a little ice glaze on top. Chance of more on Saturday, and Sunday the temps are not supposed to get out of the 20s.
I was up early, 530 a.m. -- early for me -- this morning and saw the first flakes fall. Was fun watching it get heavier and heavier and then build up outside. Gave the birds seconds at the feeder. They were hungry too! :) Sadie the Superdawg also enjoyed the snow -- played ball and romped in it.
My wife's beef stew tasted great tonight and she made corn cakes to go with it. Yum! :) I have tried to limit myself to three corncakes, knowing they will keep and still be good tomorrow -- after the weigh-in. :p

Well around one o?clock today I felt the life force return to my flu/crud battered body, really, it was like a vale was lifted:D , I became ravenous.:D I have been eating everything I could get my hands on. Hardee?s, snack machine, cookies, you name it. I can?t wait to see what?s for dinner.:D This is a heck of a thing to happen right before weigh in but I am glad to have my appetite back. I almost drove to Bonnie?s neck of the woods to buy one of those peach/praline pies:eek:

I think I just sabotaged myself. I got home from work and was, naturally, hungry. So I ate a bit of my chips and salsa as usual (I limit myself to one serving only and this usually at least curbs some of the hunger pangs until dinner). Then for some reason I looked in the fridge?! I honestly can't even remember why I did. I ended up grabbing a slice of the leftover pizza from last night and eating it cold. The amount of sodium in that thing could set me back. On Wednesday I was showing a 1 pound loss. Not sure what might happen now. I've changed my mind on what I'm having for dinner now, that's for sure. Salad it will be!

mmm the following information needs to be taken with a pinch of salt....
On reflection i am going to have to get myself a heavy duty pair of reliable scales from the shops (whale world perhaps) in the next week as i'm not sure about the accuracy of the ones i have.
I don't care what i weigh on this journey as long as its accurate and consistent.
So, from a starting weight of 271, then a drop to 266, then a jump back to 273 i now weigh 264.
Thats a loss this week (since Monday) of 9 pounds or an overall loss from the starting weight of 7 pounds.
I think its more likely that last weeks weight was a mis-measure and i've dropped around 4.5 the first week, 2-3 the second and about the same for this week rather than the down/up/down that i reported.
Anyway, its downwards and thats all i care about.
I haven't excercised this week but i have changed my diet, i've had no soda's, no chocolate, no chips & just been eating healthy fruit/veg/chicken/pasta....its filled me up much more than the junk did and so i guess it could be responsible for the large drop this week...time will tell if the numbers stay big over the comming weeks.
Regards from Australia.

mmm the following information needs to be taken with a pinch of salt....
Perhaps the above highlighted word is the real culprit and not the scales. I've been known to fluctuate like that if I've gone from eating a lot of salt to little salt (or vice versa). Just a thought...
Good work on the loss! :D

Way to go, MB! As you say, there may have been some scale fluctuation, but the important thing is the trend -- downward! Hope I am heading in that direction when I step on my scales tomorrow, too....:)

I am not sure how to report today. On Wednesday I weighed 130 (a 1 pound loss from last week). This morning I weigh 132 (a 1 pound gain from last week, 2 pound gain from Wednesday). So I'm not sure if I lost or not. I think I did and I just have 2 pounds of water weight to get off. I don't even want to know what my weight will be on Monday, after a weekend of eating out with my mom and sister. :(

Did not do good this week. Brought my diet meals for lunches all week and ended up eating out three times. I need to stop looking at the Irish Pub lunch menu we get faxed to our office on Mondays. I did make the Weight Watchers chicken lasagna last Sunday and ate it for dinner three nights. Hope everyone loses some weight this week. I will try harder next week.

Terry, a no change is a win in my book.
When i lived in the UK we did a "who ate all the pies" diet at work where 1 pound = 4 pies.
If you lost you were safe, if you stayed still you were safe, if you gained you paid 1 pound for every pound gained.
That was the lowest i ever got in adult life, 15 and a half stone.
Good work for no gain over the post christmas period.

Good morning, everyone! I just joined Cooker's throwdown last week and I've been very compliant all week....not sure how long this will last, but I'm going to keep truying! Yesterday I had lost 3.5 pounds ......starting last week at 182.5 and down to 179.5, but this morning I've only lost 3 pounds. Must be because we went out for dinner last night since my daughter was home from college. I could not resist the garlic mashed potatoes on my plate!!!
I wasn't too good about the exercising last week either. I only walked two days out of 7 and I like to try to do much more than that. I'll blame it on bad weather, like we're having right now. three inches of snow overnight and now it's turned into freezing rain....I'll definitely not be walking in freezing rain, although a lot of folks around here have special things that they strap onto their shoes that are like ice cleats. We get so much freezing rain here that those little contraptions are a godsend. I think LLBean sells them and I've been thinking about getting myself a pair.

Congratulations to all who have lost! To those who have gained, there's always next week! As for me,I stayed the same. I'm not happy about it, but my knee has given me fits since Monday, and I have been hobbling around and couldn't consider the gym.

I am thrilled to report that I have lost 2.5 pounds in the past week!
I have been a little sensitive about reporting my gross weight because it is, well, "gross." But now I feel a little better about it. After my OHS three years ago, the lowest I could get after cardiac rehab (which I highly recommend, BTW) was 269. I pretty much maintained that, but then I got reckless in my eating and when I went to the doctor's last July, I weighed in at (gulp) 280! I have coordinated my scales with his, for reporting purposes on Cooker's Throw-Down, which came just in time for me.
Okay, that is a wordy preface to reporting my numbers:
Starting weight: 280
Current weight: 257.5
Total loss: 22.5 pounds
Loss in past week: 2.5 pounds
I haven't seen the 250s in many years and now I am determined to see the 240s.
Thank you again, Cooker, for your brilliant idea in starting this thread!

In my quest to go from Fat Albert to Wise Albert, I lost 2 lbs. this week. That's a miracle to say the least. We ate out SIX times. I've been having Slim Fast drinks for two meals on most days, but I'm still surprised. I was hoping for at least a half pound loss. Woo hoo!

I'm not going to weigh for a while. I'm so discouraged. I weighed today, and still the same - basically I haven't lost a thing since starting the throw down. I, for the life of me, can't figure out why. I'm being very good. I rarely have anything sweet.
I'm going to try to step up and do my low-carbing in earnest, drink lots of water, and try to work out more. I just bought a Total Trainer Pilates Pro (similar to a Total Gym, but 1/3 the price) and will be adding that to my walking.
I'm trying not to starve myself, because I know this just causes the body to hang on to every calories like a chimp does a banana (Cooker!).
I think I just need to put aside the weight issue for now and work on remodeling my body. I'm going to try and just see how my clothes start fitting as a sign of success or lack of.
I'm still a full-fledged member - I just won't be weighing in.
I'm hoping the Ref will allow this.:o Let me know if I need to send some sort of bribe.;)

Karlynn,
We understand how you feel. Although having not lost is a downer, having not gained during the holidays is an upper, so to speak. How can you be faulted for taking a lull in weighing, in order to focus on fine tuning your program? This could be called a Lulligan; I bet it's in the Throw Down manual somewhere.

?Cooker?s Remodeling? at your service, free estimates??:D
I would like to take a minute to reemphasize the goal (as I see it) of this thread. Maybe we need to draft a ?charter? or ?statement of purpose?. By the name itself we seem to focus on weight loss, which is not a bad thing, but we are about so much more. I have seen in myself and others a refocus on overall health and well being. We, I hope, are in this for a lifetime. A lifetime of continually improving eating, exercising and attitudes. Pounds lost are a measuring stick, that?s all. Does it feel good to lose a pound or two?..sure. I gained this week and that was ok. It may not have felt good but it tasted great. :o :D
Life is about living and living to the fullest. And that is weighed on the scales of our hearts, not the ones on the floor. Be well, live well.

LOL, I just reread this and pictured myself dragging it along on my walks. (Although reigning in an exuberant 120 lb dog is work too!) I got a work-out hauling the 110 lb box into the family room when it was delivered - not to mention getting it out of the box!

Still sitting within my usual range....I have the same problem/story as Karlynn...seems no matter how good I am at eating healthily the scales refuse to move downwards. I did manage to lose 4pound last week when I had Tonsilitis, but that went back on as soon as I could swallow food again.
One success to report....this throw-down has kept me from bingeing on brownies and caramel slice etc...and its so tempting with the kids on holidays to bake them a treat ;) .....I am limiting myself to just 1-2 very small pieces.
160 pounds and steady.

I think perhaps my numbers will also be fairly good only for the fact that there is soooooo much to remove...:o ...i think there is 40 pounds that can easily be removed with some self discipline and moderate exercise...the remaining 20 pounds will be harder and then after that there ain't no amount of excercise thats going to get me much below 200 pounds short of a DIY accident removing a limb

Hi, I'm back. We've been on Maui in Hawaii and returned home last night. We had a wonderful time and even though the flight was very long I had no problems other than swollen ankles and feet. My inner time clock is really messed up and I won't step on the scales for a few days until I'm a little more normal again. My clothes don't feel any tighter so I don't think I did too much damage though. I was more careful than usual with the amount of food I ate but by no means "dieted"! It is nice to be home though!

We had a really wonderful time. I had a few "Volcano" drinks but the only grass skirt I bought was one for my granddaughter's barbie doll. We hadn't really planned on going but my grandson who is 7 1/2 y/o kept saying he wanted us to go with them and how we shouldn't pass up the trip and the little guy was right!
We stayed at the Westin, drove the north shore (spectacular scenery) and watched lots of hump back whales. I did snorkel one day for a while but my foot kept cramping so I stayed pretty close to the boat. It was still worth it though a thousand times over. It is too far to go again but I'm glad I made it once.

Bonnie, that must have been a real surprise! We had lunch with some members of his team many years ago in Bermuda but never had the pleasure of meeting Billy Graham. After a weekend with my family down in Houston I'm up 4 pounds. :( Though I'm not surprised at all. All the eating out equals major water retention. I hope to drop it now that we're back home and I can cook my own meals.
Though I must say my brother in law was very considerate. Yesterday he made lasagna for lunch and he did not add any salt at all (even though the recipe called for it). Nathan says he's glad he didn't, since it probably would have been TOO salty if he had. By no means was the meal "low sodium," but at least it was "lowER sodium" than it could have been. I was pleasantly surprised that he not only remembered, but tried to accommodate as well. :)

Niki....yep....I would guess water too. I gained about four after my eating binge with the crud......It is back off and I am back on track......you will be too!!!!!!

Niki - I'm guessing 4 pounds of water (and "stuff":o ).
Oh, I figure as much too. It's still annoying, but I'm not concerned about the weight itself (just the fact that I'm so easily effected by sodium). I'm thinking about having my card up my lasix dose, but I'm not sure if I should or not. I know I'll get it off soon as long as I avoid sodium again.
Thanks for the encouragement Karlynn and Cooker! :D

Thanks, Cooker. Right now I think it's the blahs as much as the crud. Wind finally died down, so even though it was cold, Sadie and I walked along a segment of the Blue Ridge Parkway that was closed to traffic because of the recent ice. That was a nice spirit-lifter. Good advice about the fuel. I got a big thick chicken salad sandwich at the country store after our walk, and said the heck with calorie counting for today at least.

Hi, I just don't want you to think I'm dropping out!!! I know we just got home but we're leaving for Puerto Vallarta in a couple of days. We get back Feb 2nd and Feb 4th I'm having some oral surgery done which will really help me get back on track don't you think? Today though, I weighed 178 which I think is what I weighed prior to Hawaii. Today I wore my "Skinny" jeans. I know they wouldn't be skinny jeans for most people but hey, take the victories when we can get them right?.
It seems like we have all been having ups and downs but at least we are working at it. Wise, great going!
I haven't had the crud this winter and feel bad that so many of you are having to battle it. Hopefully I'll escape it.....and the flu too. I forgot to get my flu shot. Boy does that sound lame but somehow it happened. Anyway, if I'm gone for a while please know I'm thinking of you all while I'm off to someplace warmer.
When I get back I'm going to have to catch up on all our newbies. I'm so glad to see people are responding to their posts and helping them out. I'll help out again when I get back.....

Have a great trip to Mexico...So cold in the South now.. More COLD weather for this weekend. No walking, ect...178 is NOT fat..I weigh 170..and still. like you NO flu/ect..No colds/ect..Why I don't get out/about in cold weather. Spring will come..and hoping to start another loss of 1 lb per week..:) ..I think for us women on the diet-thread..it is more important to wake up/ take a nice shower/ put our make-up on...and look good.:D .Rather than sweating/ect. trying to lose weight...:p Have always done that..before Hubby wakes up..then he doesn't notice my weight.:p ......Enjoy your trip:) Bonnie
