Ok losers, I am starting this weeks thread early. The next few day will be crazy at work:eek: I will post my weight on Friday but I have not been a good example. The holiday food and occasions are my master:o I will regain control at some point, promise. BIG congrats to those of you who have been able to maintain or lose during this season....if I wore a hat I'd tip it to you:p :p :p

So far I was 3 pounds up yesterday. But I barely had time to eat today. I typed out 12 guitar chord charts for Sunday and Christmas Eve. If someone put a huge pan of brownies in front of me now it would be all over and this fat lady would sing. Fa la la la la.

I weighed this morning and was down one pound. But, that was probably due to the fact that I made 250 meatballs last night for my husband to take to his Christmas luncheon today and I was too tired to eat any dinner. I have lunch plans with ladies from work today and I am picking up 2 of my granddaughters and 2 of their friends after work and taking them out to eat dinner. I will hope to weigh my same 130 Friday morning. No gain.no loss.

OK yo' bunch of LOOSERS! Seems like EVERYONE is havin' a challenge durin' these Holidays. Jest t'cheer y'all up ah post th' latess interview wif Dr. Feelfine.
Bubba :)
These are questions and answers from Doctor Fillfine:
QUESTION: I've heard that cardiovascular exercise can prolong life; is this true?
ANSWER: Your heart is only good for so many beats, and that's it... don't waste them on exercise. Everything wears out eventually. Speeding up your heart will not make you live longer; that's like saying you can extend the life of your car by driving it faster. Want to live longer? Take a nap.
Q: Should I cut down on meat and eat more fruits and vegetables?
A: You must grasp logistical efficiencies. What does a cow eat? Hay and corn. And what are these? Vegetables. So a steak is nothing more than an efficient mechanism of delivering vegetables to your system. Need grain? Eat chicken. Beef is also a good source of field grass (green leafy vegetable). And a pork chop can give you 100% of your recommended daily allowance of vegetable products.
Q: Should I reduce my alcohol intake?
A: No, not at all. Wine is made from fruit. Brandy is distilled wine, that means they take the water out of the fruity bit so you get even more of the goodness that way. Beer is also made out of grain. Bottoms up!
Q: How can I calculate my body/fat ratio?
A: Well, if you have a body and you have fat, your ratio is one to one. If you have two bodies, your ratio is two to one, etc.
Q: What are some of the advantages of participating in a regular exercise program?
A: Can't think of a single one, sorry. My philosophy is: No Pain...Good!
Q: Aren't fried foods bad for you?
A: YOU'RE NOT LISTENING!!! .... Foods are fried these days in vegetable oil. In fact, they're permeated in it. How could getting more vegetables be bad for you?
Q: Will sit-ups help prevent me from getting a little soft around the middle?
A: Definitely not! When you exercise a muscle, it gets bigger. You should only be doing sit-ups if you want a bigger stomach.
Q: Is chocolate bad for me?
A: Are you crazy? HELLO Cocoa beans! Another vegetable!!! It's the best feel-good food around!
Q: Is swimming good for your figure?
A: If swimming is good for your figure, explain whales to me.
Q: Is getting in-shape important for my lifestyle?
A: Hey! 'Round' is a shape!
Well, I hope this has cleared up any misconceptions you may have had about food and diets.
AND.....
For those of you who watch what you eat, here's the final word on nutrition and health. It's a relief to know the truth after all those conflicting nutritional studies.
1. The Japanese eat very little fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.
2. The Mexicans eat a lot of fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.
3. The Chinese drink very little red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.
4. The Italians drink a lot of red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.
5. The Germans drink a lot of beers and eat lots of sausages and fats and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.
CONCLUSION
Eat and drink what you like. Speaking English is apparently what kills you.
Enjoy the holidays GUILT FREE!!!!

Sadie the Superdawg would never turn on me. She's grateful to be living on Virginia's hallowed soil, not that certain state down there that is the remnant of a penal colony. :p :p
Besides, the Superdawg got a good report in her annual checkup at the vet's yesterday. The Vet: Amazed that the hip is holding together and that she is so active, and happy to sell me a fancy supplement with glucosamine, avacados, and lots of other high-falutin' stuff that is supposed to help preserve her joint health into old age. Superbob sure wants to keep the Superdawg going, since she is both his personal trainer and best friend-- oh BTW Sadie had lost 2 pounds since last April, so maybe the Superdawg should be in the Throw-Down too. :D Or maybe I should be able to add her weight loss to mine. After all, she eats half of my doublecheeseburgers, yet still manages to lose weight! :p
BTW, Cooker, sure glad you can spell "ejection" correctly. That sentence could have come out disastrously. :p :p :p

I'm not touching this one with a ten foot pole!:p
I must confess that I was away from the computer eating lunch with my husband at the hospital cafeteria, and I had a delicious apple dumpling for dessert. It was yummy! :) :) )
Then I went to the mall, and had to pack so many presents out to the car that I know I burned the excess calories right off! ;) Shopping is good for weight loss!:p :p And since it is good for weight loss, everyone should rush out to buy me some presents (take a long time, you'll burn more calories that way!):p

Well, I'm up 2 lbs
151 last weigh in 2 weeks ago
153 today.
I'm surprised it's not more. Not because I've been pigging out - I just haven't been eating the right things.
I should be up 14 pounds - 1 pound for every song I've had to chart and rehearse for Sunday and Christmas Eve. I can't remember a time when I've ever been so stressed and I've been a music director for 12 years. I'm also responsible for the media presentation for each service - so that adds to the stress.
If someone offered me a pan of brownies - I'd eat it with no apologies!

Total change- -11
I kept shifting my weight on the scale to see if I could dip it back down to 130, but alas it was not possible. ;) I guess 1 pound up is not so bad considering all the snacking I did at work this week. And when I look at my total loss I'm still pretty happy. But it looks like it may be next year before I find myself in the next tens down. It's so close, too!
Keep up the good work everyone. Don't be discouraged by gains. Just use it as motivation to get back on track. (((hugs))) to all. My family is beginning to descend upon us tonight, so I may or may not be able to get online much. I had such success at Thanksgiving when I had everyone to my house, I was insane enough to invite everyone here again for Christmas Eve dinner AND Christmas Day! It's gonna be a busy one, but I'm looking forward to it. :D If I'm not on between now and then: MERRY CHRISTMAS!!! :D :D :D

Good work Niki! Small gains at this time of year are a success. Not letting them creep up after the holidays is going to be our challenge!
As far as having the celebrations at your house - I don't know about anyone else, but I find that if I'm doing all the cooking - I don't eat nearly as much. The dangerous way is taking a dish to someone else's house. Like potluck dinners at church - it's pig out city!!

I stayed the same as last week; I'm still not back to where I was before our trip to Florida, but I'm down two and will settle for that.

Well, it's 7:45 am saturday on the west coast. My whole family is asleep (except the one son who isn't home yet and works in retail and will be exhausted when he finally gets off that train Christmas Eve day) and I'm feeling like a buzz-saw with lots to do but can't get to it lest I wake them and have to make them all breakfast.....they'll be clammoring for my famous scrambled eggs (nothing really....eggs, whisk in dash of Beau Monde seasoning, tabasco, cook in hot foaming butter and as they begin to firm up add a LOT of grated Tillamook cheddar cheese).
So here I am instead (my other family! :D ) trying hard not to laugh too loud at you hooligans banter back and forth about prune juice!!!
You guys are wonderful!
I'm doing okay. Exercise has simply ceased due to all the holiday hub-bub and I honestly do feel sluggish. I'll give my self a B- on eating habits. Put out the (now endless variety of) Hershey's Kisses and have only grabbed a few. Took a little nibble of goodies husband brought home from work. I think my undoing may be my oldest son who has come home wanting to learn how to make Martha Stewart Rum Balls!!!! The first stage has cooled overnight and this morning we add the rum and ball the crumbled brownies up.
So beginning weight was 189. Dropped down last week to 179. Am back up to 181.5. Not too worried about it. Plan to get right back in motion once my 2 boys leave on the 28th. New goal for 2008.....step up the exercise duration and add something new to the mix.
Happy Holidays everyone!!!

I agree, Karlynn! Good job staying the course folks.
I have actually lost a pound this week (Mary's "shopping is good for weight loss" theory holds true with me!). Yesterday I did weigh in, but I cleaned the house (also good for weight loss) and shopped for hours. So, my stats are:
Starting weight 179
Last week's weight 154
This week's weight 153
Total loss 26 pounds
On the 26th I fly to Ft. Lauderdale to board a ship on the 27th and take a 5 day/4 night cruise. I'm guessing there will be no weight loss next week! I'm going to aim for "small gains"!
Happy holidays, everyone!

I found I made far fewer of the recipes from Bon Appetite than I did the Pilsbury recipe books. The reason being that there's a picture with every Pilsbury recipe and they make your mouth water. The Bon Appetite magazine usually got flipped through and put aside. Just be glad you didn't get the subscription to Pilsbury like we did several years ago. There are recipes from those magazines that we STILL make to this day! :D

Thank God (and I mean that) this season of eating is over (New Years is not a biggie for me)!!! From Thanksgiving until today I have been under a constant assault of temptation, to which I yielded willingly:o ....today started with coffee and confections....with a few baked treats tossed in before a 1:00 pm lunch of ham, turkey and all the fixings, all followed by a dinner tonight with friends consisting of prime rib, roast pork......and of course....all the fixings. As an ex party animal (no avitar connection:p ) it is interesting to me how a food and 90 proof hangover are so much alike. Proof positive for this chubbo that the body does not like over indulgence of any type. I'm looking forward to the feeling of wellness that will soon return with sensible eating. It is possible however that may have to undergo a "prune juice detoxification". If so please do not be concerned, I will be under the strict supervision of Dr. Aranga Tann:p :p :p :D

Uh... I may not have fared quite as well over Christmas Eve and Day as I did at Thanksgiving... Actually, Christmas Eve wasn't so bad. We hosted and made turkey and all the fixin's. I ate a much smaller portion than years past and was quite proud of myself. Except for the 10 or so olives I kept sneaking while cooking (those babies pack a mean sodium punch! ).
Today, however, I think I started eating around 7 AM and didn't stop until about 9 PM. We had "snackie foods" that we set out and people (myself more so than I should have) grazed as they felt inclined. I never got FULL, but I never got truly hungry either. ;) And because all of the festivities were at our house, we have more leftovers than we could eat in a week! And we can't just throw it out (yet) because the garbage is already full to overflowing (fortunately, they should be picking up tomorrow) and that's not even counting the 5 bags of wrapping paper and 3 bags waiting in the garage to go out!
But I can honestly say I got myself a workout over the last couple of days. My 6 month old nephew is staying with us (along with his parents, of course ;) ) and he sure keeps you busy! He's not quite crawling yet (but sure does try!), but his favorite thing in the would to do is jump. But without the balance to stand on his own, you do a lot of up and down with your arms. I'm thinking my arms are going to fall off soon. Sadly, he's leaving tomorrow :( . I don't want him to go... Oh, well. I'll just have to make plans to go down to see him some time soon. :D
Merry Christmas Everyone!!!
