Lower Back Ache in the Morning

No, it's not a new morning radio show, but it is what I wake up to every morning. I tend to sleep on my stomach, and I suspect it is from the month or so of trying not to use my arms or shoulders when rolling over in bed. I am working on building my upper body strength back up, but the back aches are still there in the morning, though not as bad as they had been. They disappear as soon a the warm water hits my back in the shower. My GP says it's muscular.

Anyone have this happening?

Many OHS patients have bad backaches and particularly shoulder problems post surgery. They really splay you open to do the work!! So you are bound to have some residual muscle aches. I didn't have much trouble. My husband (no OHS!) has lots of back trouble and his chiropractor has always maintained that sleeping on your stomach is the worst position for the back. Maybe you could try sleeping on your side hugging some soft pillows for awhile and see if you get some relief. That the pain is going away in the shower is a really good sign!

Seriously, tho, Steve, I can't say I've experienced exactly what you have ... tho, I can say that I know I've overdone it when my back starts hurting.... Very sorry you are experiencing this extra discomfort/pain. Thoughts/prayers coming your way....

I had muscle aches in my back, neck, and shoulders post up. The doctors attributed to how the body was twisted during the surgery. It seemed to get worse when the weather changed. I used to take arthritic formula Tylonol to ease the pain. I don't take anything now. It hasn't gone away totally but it's much less severe now.

On the other hand, whenever I have had backaches they were corrected by buying new sneakers. I wear them out on the outer edge (pronation) and after about 500-600 miles of running the wear will cause an imbalance that tilts the hip and thereby misaligns the spine. New shoes fixes it every time.

Thanks y'all! I wish they would take pictures of what they do to you in surgery. The good news is, it's getting better as time goes by. A couple of months ago it was excruciating :eek: . Now its just annoying :( . You guys rock. Thanks!

Yes I get lower back pain - I notice it most when I wake up in mornings. Like you I sleep on my tummy and I think that's the problem.

I didn't have it for the first 2 - 3 weeks after surgery when I had to sleep on my back / side. I suspect I may have to go back to doing that.
