Just an idea here, but how about a forum for "complications" ???
I tend to be pretty good at finding answers for questions, but in this case I end up "stumped"!! I seem to find the same "white bread" answers re: prosthetic valves..etc...and, in my opinion, most of us who have been through this know a lot more than what you can find by searching google. :) Most things usually DO end up regarding anti-coagulation, so I look there.....BUT, it seems to me that this website is FULL of a lot of personal, every day situations that we, ourselves as well as doctors may not be "aware" of, that may be useful to others ...(i loved the thread on "ticking"!!) I am 39 years old and going into my 17th year of living with this "rare" problem via my children's father...(DX..familial aortic dissection...2 died...1 surgery..3 children diagnosed and monitoring) I've seen all kinds of weird things in my life that didn't seem to be related, but in retrospect are/could be connected to this.

There are so many different types of complications pre and post surgery. And even more when one has lived a long time with compromised cardiac and pulmonary problems.

You can usually get quite a few answers here by just talking about all the things that are presenting at the moment. Lots of sleuths here who love to try to figure out things and many who have had personal experience either directly or with their loved ones.

There are several people who have advanced cardiac issues, my husband included. Joe has had many, many weird things happen which seem to come out of the blue, and defy categorization. This last hospitalization had the Internal Medicine doctor and the cardiologists trying to decide under which category Joe's problems belonged. They were technically Internal Medicine problems, but were actually caused by cardiac things.

The cardiologists won out. The internal medicine lady didn't have clue one about cardiac problems, and was actually making harmful decisions. Joe told the cardiologists to get her off the case. So they took over Joe's management and changed several of her orders on the spot.

This was not Joe's regular Internal Medicine doctor who is brilliant and understands all of Joe's problems.

So I guess what I'm trying to say in a roundabout way is to go to Heart Talk and blast away with your symptoms. I bet you'll get many answers. There are several members with very complicated and long standing problems.

As Nancy said, post away in heart talk. There are really some very good and brillant minds here. Some don't post for the very reason your speaking of, they need a challenge. ;)
