Bon it's not the site, so it has to be your computer. Have you done a virus scan lately? Outside of having you empty your cache and trying again, I don't know what else to tell you. I wish you had XP.

Bonnie,

Empty your temporary internet files folder. (tools, options, delete files), Then open a windows explorer window (right click on the start menu and click on explore.) Then in the address bar type %temp%
It will bring up a window. delete every file in that window. if it says some cant be deleted, delete what you can. Empty the recycle bin and reboot. delete the remaining files in the %temp% folder, empty recycle bin, reboot and then resume what you were doing.

this might help your issue but it will not hurt anything. When I used to work on a help desk we found that some folks had gigabytes of space tied up in their temp files folder, and some of those files tye up a lot of computer resources.

Ross,
My last post was just rejected due to being too short. Unfortunately it was approximately four sentences long, so I don't know why it wouldn't post.
Any ideas?

Bonnie-

Here's what I do when my computer gets a little funky.

Delete the Temporary files, as others have mentioned. Close your Internet program. And then, if you have Windows, go to Start, then Programs, then Accessories, then System Tools, then Maintenance Wizard. Then do Perfom Maintenance Now.

The computer will make so funny noises during this process and if you haven't done it in a long time, it will be a lengthy process.

What this does is clean up your disk of unneeded files, scans for disk problems, and then it reorders the entire hard disk (defragmentation of "defrag" ) so everything is in proper order.

The disk gets messed up just from ordinary use and this has to be done fairly often to get things right again.

If you want to see what your hard disk looks like, you can click on Show Details during this process and a screen will pop up showing how the maintenance wizard is working and putting things in place. You can actually see how many holes your disk has in it and how the wizard fills them in.

Restart your computer afterwards.

When the disk gets too messed up, it is possible for the computer to crash and then boot up in Safe Mode. That's OK, just go to the maintenance wizard as above and do the maintenance program, then restartt and it should be fine after, and it should restart in Regular Mode.

Some people leave their computer on all the time, and program the Maintenance Wizard to run its program during the night, so things are fine in the morning.

You can read about the Maintenance Wizard in your Windows Help Index.

Print up the information from that Help file so you'll have it in front of you.

Long as we're all sittin' around complainin'...

I keep forgetting to mention the % signs that keep showing up in posts (and can't be edited out later). I assume it's some kind of delimiter that the load program is using, that is accidentally being loaded as text.

At least the site seems to be back up to speed from my access.

Best wishes,

It's really not that hard, Bonnie. First time I did it I was nervous that the computer would blow up or something :p , but it works very well, and Windows has it on there to help.

Just telling you how to do it, sounds difficult, but follow it like I mentioned. You don't have to agree to do the Maintenance Program right away, just see if you can get to the Program. And also see if you can find the Help file from Windows, then print that out and study it. Do it when YOU are ready.

I probably do it a couple of times a week.

You can also get a little program from Norton called Norton Clean Sweep that will safe clean the computer and give you some instant extra room on the hard disk. Very easy to use.
