    Awake and recovering

Not really "painful" so much as unpleasant... mostly 'cuz it just feels really strange and wrong. I felt it rubbing against muscles up in my traps, like "WTF, how long are those things?!" I had an amazing nurse practitioner who had a way of always putting both me and my wife at ease, from my...

    Emergency Information on phone

I looked in "Settings" on my phone and found a tab for "Safety and Emergency", then there's a number of choices like Medical Info, Emergency Contacts, etc. I believe if you populate these then the info would come up without your phone needing to be unlocked.

    Emergency Information on phone

Interesting, I just looked on my Android (S2) and it has "Emergency Call" on that password screen, but no "Emergency Info" tab. Cool feature. *EDIT* Actually, I take that back. There's a scrolling message on the bottom of my screen when you turn it on (before I even swipe to get to the...

    Awake and recovering

Woo Hoooo!! Outstanding! The two biggest things they told me was: 1. Do your breathing exercises. 2. If you feel like you can get up and walk, get up and walk. (If you don't feel like you can get up and walk, get up and walk) I remember those milestones well, downgrade from ICU, chest tube...

What have you been doing lately?

I can't speak to the Warfarin part of your post, but just wanted to say that your language was better than some of my English speaking friends. :giggle: So I played volleyball on Sunday for the first time in well over a year, used to be nearly every weekend. It's how my wife and I met...

    30M, Aortic aneurysm, Bicuspid valve.

I remember my first walk in ICU was about 40' with the nurse pushing the freaking recliner from my room right behind me in case I got tired! Next time was 80-100 feet, and so on. When I got downgraded and moved over to the regular cardiac ward and started walking the halls (one lap around was...

    30M, Aortic aneurysm, Bicuspid valve.

You got this!! I had my bicuspid Aortic valve replaced Nov. 27th and was surfing again on March 10th. (and that's at 61 years old) Yeah, the sternectomy is not something I'd do for fun, but if you follow Dr's orders and don't do anything to compromise it, it's not as bad as you'd expect. I...

    27 M aortic valve replacement

Hey, welcome to the club! Your age will serve you well in recovery and this will just be a little speed bump in the rearview mirror before you know it. I'm 61, and it only took 3 1/2 months to get back to my happy place. This is my very first wave post op, and one of the dolphins that came by...

    Surgery scheduled in two weeks

Yeah, not really a big wave guy anymore. Anything more than a couple feet overhead and I find myself going around sections rather than attacking them. I just enjoy playful little stuff now. Here's a couple of spots about 20 minutes from home that I used to surf when I was young and...

    Surgery this Wednesday

Out-freaking-standing!! 👏👍 The two things they told me to be vigilant about was to do my breathing exercises, and get up and walk. I remember getting the drain tubes removed... that was interesting. As he pulled them out I felt one rubbing across muscles up in my traps/neck area. "Jesus...

    Surgery scheduled in two weeks

Yep ^^^ This right there! When my wife would see me starting to reach or do something stupid (not unusual) she'd tell me "C'mon surfer boy, stay in the tube!"
